RE: If We Only Live Once... Health Questions I Don't Know The Answers To

in #wondering5 years ago

There are many things to talk about in response to your questions. I don't want to be viewed as defending everything here, but here are some answers to these questions:

  1. ignorance, not caring, addiction/vicious cycles
  2. see #1
  3. sometimes external medicine is needed
  4. risk is scary, routines (even shitty ones) can be comforting
  5. many reasons, bust some examples could be escaping poverty or abuse
  6. technology can be used for many things. Think of how someone could view modern people for using gasoline-powered vehicles, harmful plastics, smartphones, etc. Does that stop you from using them?
  7. there are many things that can be treated with popping pills, so we have become accustomed to thinking that is usually the answer. There are many homeopathic treatments that do not work, so people may think none of them work
  8. if this is the case it probably involves "short-term pain" for "long-term gain." People don't want to do the short-term pain part of this, even if it means a better outcome in the future (see the marshmallow experiment). Link

Psychology is an interesting topic. IMO, there are "nature" and "nurture" components as to why we are the way we are. Remember that people have all of this background information that makes them think and act the way they do. I think having an understanding of why people act the way they do can help understand who we are as a person and hopefully some people along the way

This was a great well-balanced answer. Well done.
