Finished the first Pikin Stik
Over the weekend I completed the first of the 2 Pikin Stiks that I have been making. This one has a Tasmanian Oak neck, Jacaranda front and Acacia back body.
The neck was hand shaped with tradition hand plans and lots of sanding.
The side of the body are actually the same piece of timber as the neck, it has had the middle removed and then had a spreader bar installed on the bottom to open it from 1.5Inches to 5 inches. This is about the limit of the timbers ability to bend, any further and it'll snap off.
Its been tuned to an Open G tuning and sounds quite nice. Its got quite a high action on it, perfect for slide work, but a bit hard on the fingers. The next one I'll go the extreme opposite and have a really light action on it so it is easy for girls fingers to play it.

Wow. Nice job. I love woodworking although I'm nowhere close to this kind of project (I know nothing about music, can't even whistle).
Carpentry, well done, is art.

STOPHoly mac & chz! That is a beautiful piece of woodwork. My father was a woodworker and tried his hands at instruments, but never was able to get them right. It is wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing this.
