Feeling Motivated: Some words of Advice for my fellow Steemians - Patience and Community

in #steemit7 years ago

Today while making the long drive from Annecy to Nice, I was overcome by a motivating feeling. When on tour, waking up early in the morning to spend half the day in the car between concerts is one of the difficult parts of the job. When the body is already exhausted from jumping around on a stage from the night before, a stationary ride in a car is likely not the best remedy. Stack on top of that all of the busking and media appearances to promote the concerts AND the videos, editing, social media management, booking, accounting and administration (Plus you have to find time to be creative and write new songs!). When you take all of that into account, it’s easy to see how difficult this “job” can be. But, I’m not here to complain or ask for sympathy remember, I’m motivated!

The motivating feeling I felt while driving came during a reflection on everything that’s happened in the past half year. I will never pretend to be wise, to know more than I know, but one thing I have noticed in my short life is that many people seek an instant gratification. My mother had always told me that “patience is a virtue”, and when you’re a young child, those words do not ring true the same way. But today I could not believe more strongly in that adage. I have met many musicians who write a few good songs and expect the world to come to them as a result. The TV and Radio to play their songs while they travel from city to city playing sold out shows in front of stadium audiences. I’m not here to tell you it won’t happen, I’m here to say that it takes years of work to achieve that end.

You see it’s the patience that makes the great artists, the great engineers, the great businessmen… the great people of this world. I want to impress the same upon all of us here in STEEM. I joined the community at the start of this year, the first month things went extremely slow. I was posting content and received very little interaction. But I was not discouraged. Much like with everything that I do in the music world, it takes time to learn and build relationships necessary to grow and make an impact. The more time we have spent in the STEEM world, the more encouraged we feel to be a member of the community. We feel encouraged by the support we have received from “veteran” Steemians, and from our fellow minnows who are listening to the music and engaging with me.

Steemit has a great potential future but we are only as strong as our community. We need to remain patient as we grow and develop. TO MY FELLOW MINNOWS, we need to support one another. Remember that “money” should not be our reason for being here, it is the principle first. To have a decentralized social network with decentralized content is the real value behind this platform and the entire ecosystem. If we remain together and promote the Steem content, we will drive the value of STEEM as a currency. Developing platforms like @DTube, @DSound and @DLive are integral to our content reaching a wider audience. We must support the developers of our ecosystem and promote these networks.

Let’s continue to build this community. Steem is an important building block toward a bright future of creation and self-empowerment. Let’s share ideas. Let’s collaborate with one another. And let’s remain patient as we grow and become strong members of this community.

Wise words my friend!

I agree it is slow at the start - iv been here nearly 2 months and I am slowly getting to know people here. New Steemians often expect this to be easy and to make loads of money straight away. Thats not how it work here - you need to out the effort in to get to know people.

Keep on Steeming :)

I am also into music (moved to Spain and havent yet got a guitar here!) so I have joined the Discord group

That's exactly the point! So many people expect to start Steem rolling immediately and make hundreds in their first month. Remain humble and realize that it is a community and you must EARN your stripes. Welcome to the Discord Channel!

Yeah especially when they come in and see some of the crap on the trending page and think its like printing money...

Thanks loving the channel so far!

Keep fighting brother, make strong community..

Yes @Muktaridha! We must stay together and promote a strong Steemit world :)

Great essay and very good points. My old Gran used to say that “Nothing with real meaning comes easy.” My great-grandma used to tell us, “If you take your time, do it the best you’re able, and stick to it, you can do anything.”
