8. Steem Price Update
¯\___(ツ)____/¯ Follow me @penguinpablo for daily Steem statistics.
i think if we as a community can push a little further we will be well over 10 mln user by 2018 . Then it would take real snowball effect in place . I see a lot of good projects running on lately , but at the same time there are challanges too. To me the scope outweighs the challenges. Hence i am going further into it. I like the work u do to bring the stats . Great job.
Wow thanks for finding these. So we have 450,000 daily users on steem during a week? We have a little over one million accounts. That's pretty good! Imagine if we get to over 10,000,000 accounts. I can't wait to see the growth. It's interesting that activity and account sign ups are around price increases. Is the price increasing the cause of the new sign ups and activity or vice versa? What do you guys think?
Hi there - please could you tell me how you define Daily active users (per week)?
My records show that there are only around 55000 accounts which commented in the last week, and I'm struggling to compare this to your metric.
I calculate the daily active users for each of the last 7 days and add them up. So the 435,187 active users of last week is actually an average of 62,169 daily active users (435,187 divided by 7).
I tried to calculate the weekly active users, but my script to calculate this runs out of memory. It is just too much data ;-)
Maybe you should put the average into the chart instead of the sum? Adding them up doesn't make much sense to me, it means a lot of double counting. Though both average and sum will be off vs. weekly active users.
According to my database there were 122295 accounts either voting or commenting (or both) in last 14 days.
I think the sum of 7 days makes more sense, because all charts in my weekly report show a number of a 7 day period.
Yes, that's true.
In the case of other charts such as posts, votes and comments, the sum is a meaningful number. When you count users though, by summing them you double count several times (many users are active every day and get counted as 7 users).
Here's the daily average per week.
I think you're right that this gives a better representation. I'll use this one for my weekly report going forward. Thanks for contributing.
Ok, thanks for clarification on that. Does the 62,169 include just posters/commenters and voters?
Yes, an active user is an account that interacted with the Steem blockchain on that day. This can be any transaction: a vote, post, comment, transfer and so on.
Had the same question
See my answer to @andybets :)
I hope all those new accounts are not just part of a bot army. Steemit needs real users and needs to retain them. I see too many good people sign up and then give up. The community needs to support them. It's on our interest
I notice that too @steevc and it is good you raised this issue, it is not easy to be here day in day out. Haven said that anyone joining steemit needs to realise it not a get rich quick stuff. we need to build a solid community around ourselves to be able to survive and stick it out.
It is worth it in the long run if patience is applied.
Exactly. Steemit is still a small player. We have to help build it up
I just love steemit , it is challenging and very content based. We must consider ourselves fortunate to be among the early users of steemit. Though I joined last September but I still consider myself very fortunate to be here!
The bots are taking over on here! I get followed by so many bots not it is insane - they are just inflating all these metrics. Im the same I follow people who write really good content and then wonder why im not seeing their posts and turns out they just stopped posting - happens alot!
Talk about the bots @conradt ! Am I the only one that find them infuriating?
I have days where it really annoys me - like today! They are probably here to stay so i should just get used to it
They do look like they are here to stay!
I agree with you. So many inactive accounts are still there and they count in total number of accounts opened on steemit.
As a resource, @ned and steemit inc should float a customer service program. Send mails to inactive accounts so they can share their reasons for quitting. This will serve as a sort of survey on customer retention and enable the platform create ways in which everyone, no matter how poor their writing skills, can find a place to express themselves.
Steemit Inc needs to show themselves to be a part of the community and when a member of a community does not show up for work or any social services, it is the duty of the community to find out exactly what is going on. That is how families are created.
When people see mails from steemit Inc asking after their welfare as well as their opinions, they will feel a sense of belonging. This is something facebook or other centralised platform lack; the human touch. Steemit cannot afford to leave out interacting with users, whether witnesses, whales, orgasm, dolphins or inactive users.
These are my personal thoughts, and I may be wrong but there it is.
you couldn't have said it better! On point right there, if steemit wants to beat the likes of facebook I share your idea of personal touch, that personal kind of relationship will go a long way to keep folks in the game.
Yes we do have some of us that feels I am not a good writer but that is all in the mind and I felt that way initially on steemit but like mention to @steevc, i find steemit challenging in the aspect on great content creation. At the end of the day it is a two way street from the steemit users and the steemit itself to build a long lasting relationship.
Great input from you @warpedpoetic
Thank you @joetunex. It is good that steemit is encouraging people to improve their writing skills. The visual system of knowledge acquisition KS slowly killing writing as well as reading as a skill.
I hope the ideas are seen by those who can make a difference and put into consideration. It is said that there lots of would be generals, thinkers, scientists, writers in the grave, who knows what those inactive accounts could bring to the table?
Also several steemit like platforms are springing up and soon the competition will be fierce. Steemit Inc has to be prepared.
Thank you @warpedpoetic we need folks like you on the platform
Thanks for the breakdown, Poloniex does not seem to be very popular lol...
Thanks for sharing this cryptocurrency news update providing.....I appreciate your post.
Keep it up my dear friend....
