Upvoting old posts; what happens? Edit: already answered by Pfunk.

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

I just noticed the interface allows the upvoting of posts well over 7 days old.

I don't know what happens with these votes, as there is no second payout period anymore. The voting symbol button does turn blue, but the number of votes isn't incremented.

If nothing is done with these votes, shouldn't the interface prevent their casting? Or is this working as intended?

Sort:

The upvote is logged in the blockchain, no pending value is added, and no vote power is consumed.

Thanks! There's that cleared up, then.

Nice to know, I sometimes get lost in the past and upvote posts of people, just because I like them.
Thank you for asking :)

Good to know.

So it just displays a a vote on steemit but doesn't really count as a real vote? Does this cost resource credits?

Yes it is counted as a vote, but with 0 weight and no way to effect payout. You can test resource credits by loading this page before and after voting on a post or comment that is 8+ days old: https://steemd.com/@niel96
