ALERT: SBD Print Rate at 1%: Everyone Posting Must Use the 100% Power Up Option... Now!steemCreated with Sketch.

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

This is a very quick alert to all Steemians that the SBD Print rate is currently down to 1%. You can see this on steemd.com at the foot of the right column.

This is because the fall in price of STEEM relative to SBD means that the debt ratio is now at, or very near, 10%.

This now makes it even more important that all new posts are paid out at "Power Up 100%".

At an SBD Print Rate of 1% you will get almost zero SBDs if using a 50% SBD / 50% SP payout option. Sure, your author rewards are being converted to 99% STEEM, so it is almost doing the conversion for you, but be aware that your payouts are suddenly going to look unusual.

It is easy to forget this when posting, but the default can be changed in the Wallet.

The other freaky issue is that everyone's Wallet is showing a value of millions or billions (or trillions!) of Dollars. This may be related to the above issue or is a separate glitch.

Will wait for further info, but everyone really must post using the full 100% Power Up option at the moment.

The payout option cannot be changed once an article is posted.

Now... what about that "haircut"?

Please RESTEEM to let everybody know. Thanks!

UPDATES

A) On sober reflection, the SBD print rate at 1% is doing most people a favour! With SBD priced below US$1, you get the most rewards by setting the payout at 100% Power UP (SP) instead of the 50-50 SP/SBD option. The low print rate is actually forcing users into an almost 100% payout in STEEM (as SP and liquid STEEM).

So it is worth resetting the default payout setting to 100% Power Up - can be done in your wallet - and changing it back to 50-50 once the price of SBD rises. The STEEM price has no effect on this particular calculation.

If you still can't figure it out, here are some numbers.

Imagine author rewards are $2 (curation has been dispensed), and further imagine STEEM = 40 cents and SBD = 80 cents.

At 100% SP you get 2/0.4=5 SP (STEEM). At 50-50 you get 1/0.4=2.5 SP plus $1 is turned into 1 SBD worth 80 cents = 2 STEEM if sold on the market.

2.5+2 < 5

The inequality holds whatever the price of STEEM, so long as SBD<$1.

B) The other problem, the ludicrously large wallet total and, more worrying, many pending rewards seemingly crashing to zero, remains to be resolved and is a separate issue - or issues.

Great when glitches come in bundles!

This is true if the second half is fully paid in SBD. However, due to the current SBD debt at (close to) 10% there is (close to) no SBD payed out. In the current state with 50/50 you'd get 2.5 SP + 2.5 STEEM, so exactly the same (in value) as for the 100% power-up setting. Both the debt ratio and the SBD/STEEM price can change within the next 7 days, so it's hard to say which payout option is really "better" now.

Look at the screenshot:

I got more SP than liquid Steem.
0.202SP to 0.197 liquid Steem, with 0 SBD.

I guess that it is due to the conversion of SBD to Steem that he wrote about, that is performed in order to calculate how much liquid Steem a user receives.

What you showed and linked is a claim_rewards operation, including several rewards (in this case an author reward and a curation reward):

You can see that the actual author reward share is almost identical (0.197 vs. 0.198) - the differences are just rounding artifacts.

Correct.
I just switched back to a 50%/50% after I read your reply.
Does an automatic conversion of SBD to Steem occur in the calculation of author rewards in cases where liquid Steem replaces some or all of the liquid SBD?

Yes, at this moment, with nearly all the SBD-payout going into STEEM, it makes little difference which payout option one chooses.

SBD has not been below $1 for a year, hence I suspect many have forgotten to switch payout option, but this low SBD Print Rate has done everyone a favour as it increases overall payouts by having the same effect as the 100% Power Up option.

I've been writing about changing payout option for a couple of weeks and many seemed mystified. Whenever SBD print rate returns to 100%, I'll post about it again :-)

For now, as you say, one need do nothing - just be aware of what may happen when the SBD debt ratio falls below 9%.

I believe this is the correct take. I have seen payouts of Steem, SBD and SP all on one...
Don't jump into 100% payouts, just yet, ya all!!!

My posts are automatically paying liquid steem and sp. I think this is the best way and I dont need to change to 100% power up, do I?

Yes, see above. I have seen my payouts do this too...

this issue is affecting past rewards, that drop to 0! I'm having posts with $0.05 or even more, that simply got to 0 insted of being credited

Past rewards? You mean posts already paid? Can you give an example?

Post published a week ago! time to get the reward on the wallet, and boom nothing

please supply a link so I may look - if you wish, of course!

mmm... I see what you mean.
I'm asking around, but don't have an answer as yet.
Strangely, not everyone is seeing this behaviour - might be good to get some other affected users (once they notice!) to see if there is some account parameter doing this.

did it effect you?
BY the way I commented the issue on github and I added this one

No, that's the odd thing - and why it took me a while to reply - my rewards are all looking fine, for now, and appearing in my wallet.

This may be related to the inflated wallet sizes, but worth flagging it in case it is a consequence but needs a different bit of code looked at.

I can see 2 recent rewards for you. Look at https://steemworld.org/@digital.mine

So, Should I choose 100% Power Up for posting to get more reward? What is the difference between 100% Power Up and 50% Power Up for a post for reward? Could you calculate?

Imagine author rewards are $2 (curation has been dispensed), and further imagine STEEM = 40 cents and SBD = 80 cents.

At 100% SP you get 2/0.4=5 SP (STEEM). At 50-50 you get 1/0.4=2.5 SP plus $1 is turned into 1 SBD worth 80 cents = 2 STEEM if sold on the market.

2+2.5 < 5

The inequality holds whatever the price of STEEM, so long as SBD<$1.

(copied from a previous comment)

Pretty crazy! Too bad those billions aren’t real! Thanks for the tip, I’m going to power up everything for a bit. It’s a good idea when the values are as low as they are now.

Now, if STEEM was to fall further compared to SBD we would enter "haircut" territory, I think. Would be really appreciated if @sircork would kindly explain that mechanism afresh now that we may be near it. Thanks.

Thanks to @isnochys for the link to the github issue relating to the highly inflated Wallet values: https://github.com/steemit/steem-js/issues/418.

This was on @sircork's own post on these issues, that I've just found.

@rycharde Oh Wow! Thank you for this. I have already posted today and will change it over tomorrow before I post, as I don't think that I can change it now! Blessings!
