From a minnow to the minnows. On witnesses and voting.

in #steemiit8 years ago (edited)

Forewarning I am new here. thats why its from a minnow to the minnows. I decided today I would figure out how to vote on witnesses expecting it to be a little tedious. But in less than 10 minutes I casted all 30 of my witness votes. So I'm here to tell you why voting for witnesses is important and how you can get your 30 votes in too!

Why vote on a witness? what is the purpose?

Witnesses are the ones who run the blocks and get paid steem for keeping this all going with their impressive computing power and steemit knowhow. They are often the ambassadors that are commenting in the posts, curating things, opening up minnow help programs. Being active in the chats and as helpful to everyone as they can. They all have a lot of interest in steem and steemit succeeding. Both financially, and in time spent. Most of the witnesses are the ones who seem to care the most about this place. A lot of them are the ones that make a lot of money for posting, and they deserve it. They work hard.

All the witnesses are working on different projects within steem. @Jesta is working on ChainBB (a great steem project). @curie is a project a few really good steemians are working on. @aggroed has great community outreach and is im sure working on lots of great things too! Every witness is trying to do good things for the community so it's up to you to decide which 30 to vote for. At the witness voting link below the top 50 witnesses have a link next to them that you can follow and it will tell you what projects they are working on and their experiences as witnesses. Its a good read seeing what all these awesome people are doing, and to help you decide who to vote on.. Makes it kind of suck that we only get 30 votes. This is a part of steemit I missed out on until today and I'm guessing many other new people are also missing out on this..

Ive currently heard no bad stories about any of the witnesses really. They are all people that want to help steem grow and be successful! But I will suggest a few incase you are just going to choose 30 at random. A couple of witnesses I like that are not on the top 50 list currently so you have to type their names in manually are @teamsteem (Who's posted the link below describing what witnesses are exactly), @aggroed , @glitterpig, @lukestokes.mhth , and @neoxian .. On the list of top 50 witnesses I would suggest @jesta , @ausbitbank , @curie , @furion , @anyx , @wackou , @fyrst-witness , @chitty , @krnel , @boatymcboatface , @pharesim , EDIT: I forgot to give a mention to someone who wants to be a witness and seems to have the drive to make it happen. Without his post and aggroed I would not have voted for a while probably, @lukestokes.mhth ... Thanks for making me realize I should be voting and best of luck on becoming a witness!

The people I listed are people who in my 2 weeks, I have seen on here being very active and trying to do good things for steem , steemit, and all of us minnows who are here. When you get to the witness list I'm sure you will recognize some names no matter how short of a time you have been on steemit!

Have you already voted for your witnesses? If you havent.. DO IT, and let me know how the experience was below. Any of the witnesses that I didn't name I'm sorry. there are so many of you trying to good things. Steemit is overloaded with positivity. If Anything I said was incorrect or has any misinformation let me know.. I will end with a quote by teamsteem as to why you should cast your 30 votes sooner than later...

"If I'm looking at 2 equally good posts by 2 different authors and only one of the author has approved my witness, I'll tend to vote for the post by the author who has approved my witness. It's called mutual support.

Obviously, I would never support anyone that hold ideals that goes directly against mine, even if they were my biggest supporters. Logically people that hold the same ideals support each other. We usually don't support those whose ideals go against ours." - @teamsteem

Thanks for taking time to read this. I hope this helped a couple people who are new like me get over and cast their votes today. If you have a lot of people that are newer following you as well, please resteem this. Leave a comment below. Like this if it is helpful for you. And follow me if you like my blog or you want to see more posts by me.

Awesome post! I resteemed Thank you for your support. By the way @cheetah's witness is named @anyx.

Switched it. Thanks for letting me know. It just said cheetah on the top 50 witness list so my bad

Thanks for your support :)

Someone else I recommend new users support and follow is @timcliff - he writes good posts for new users and he's contributed a lot that isn't always obvious on steemit like assisting behind the scenes at github

Also the steemdb witness list is good for seeing who's active, has an active price feed (and what the premium/discount is) and how many blocks they've missed etc.

Yes I voted for timcliff but I didn't want give out all 30 names. I wanted to leave some free will haha!! Thanks for the extra links. I will just upvote you and hope it stays up top so people can see it!!

Thanks, did a little 1% self vote to boost it up there. I do agree with the rest of your choices too, and good call on the free will thing :)

BTW for the record I do really appreciate and support a lot of the higher up witnesses as well even when I'm not voting for them - I just prefer to put my votes where they will have the biggest effect and a lot of the top tier witnesses have so many votes it wouldn't affect them at all to lose mine

You're my witness.
btw, care to tell me how I can deposit some money to here from aus?
Cheers, keep up with the posts.

Thanks! There isn't a direct aussie dollar to steem path at the moment, you would need to purchase bitcoin first (via coinjar or a good aussie localbitcoins vendor etc) and trade that for steem (via changelly/poloniex/blocktrades) and send that into your steem wallet.

I'm considering offering a local aussie dollar to steem/sbd (and reverse) service for a few mates to take a layer of complexity away for crypto noobs - depends how my chat with livingroomofsatoshi goes after this post pays out .

Legend, seem like it would be a great service, not that I would be using it for paying my bills with plankton income but nevertheless, great asset for Aussie steemit.

Thanks for posting a link to support the boss man @aggroed as a witness. I will place my vote.

Thanks , good post.
