My entry: Finish the story and earn
The whole idea is to finish an uncompleted piece of fiction story. The first part in italics was provided by @f3nix and @improv and my concluding part is right below. Please read up and tell me what you think.
Penelope had too many porcelain dolls. Her father, Til, had warned her when she was a child, "If you get one more doll, they'll rebel! That many dolls in one room have a mind of their own!"
He had said it with the kind of serious face that meant he was joking
She had stopped buying porcelain dolls anyway when she turned 13, thinking they were kids stuff. They all got put in boxes, because she wasn't willing to let go of them, and who knew, maybe when she had kids of her own, they'd want to inherit her doll collection. Or maybe they'd be worth something someday
But he must not have been joking
The morning after Penelope had purchased Hans, the Oktoberfest doll, because it was just so silly and it reminded her of the year she and her husband, Charles, had lived in Germany, she took it out of the Dolls of the World bag to show her 6 month old son, Jacob. He tried to eat its face, as he tried to eat everything's face. The dog, Cupcake, had growled and barked, as she often did when things that looked like they had eyes seemed to make intense, unblinking eye contact with her
Charles, ever the practical worrywart, swooped up the kid and the pup, put on the wearable baby garment, and took them for a walk so Penelope could take a nap. Penelope set Hans in the closet where the rest of the dolls, all still packed away, were
She took a nap
(This is how I finished the story)
Penelope knew she felt someone touch her hand. She stretched slightly, it must have been Charles . Had he returned so quickly from the walk with Jacob? Her eyes parted slowly and froze immediately she caught sight of them. Ten colorful porcelain dolls were staring back at her from the side of the bed were they stood.
Penelope sat up quickly and robbed her eyes. She wasn't dreaming at all, these dolls were alive and kicking and had somehow managed to crawl out from hiding after so many years and No, they didn't look pleased at all.
"Your dad was right" Red porcelain barked. She clearly seemed like the leader of the pack "We have a mind of our own and REBEL we must" her scanty brows narrowed in anger.
Penelope's eyes almost popped out from it's socket, she opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out however she finally found her voice.
"What did I do wrong?"
"Locking us up for so many years wasn't exactly the plan" Green porcelain replied furiously
"Yes" They all chorused. Ten angry porcelain dolls grumbling away in disapproval until red porcelain spoke up again.
"If anyone was to meet Jacob first it should have been us and not..." she paused abruptly glancing over at Hans who looked totally harassed at the door "...Not that unblinking miserable looking Oktoberfest doll"
Penelope took a deep breathe. She finally understood their grievance.
"I'm so sorry guys. please forgive me. I didn't think you'd be interested in meeting Jacob since he is a boy and not a girl"
"We have been stuffed in that bag for many years, i guess we would be excited to meet anybody" green porcelain replied.
"Not a problem, my darlings. I will introduce you to Jacob as soon as he gets back from his walk with Charles.
The dolls erupted in jubilation.
"All of us?"green porcelain asked with a radiant smile.
"Of course, all ten of you".
Penelope was sure Jacob would love them, she only hoped he wouldn't break them since they were so fragile.
That's it guys...go ahead and join the contest too
It's written and edited with care from the introduction. This is important because it's seeable that you can create something with quality. Furthermore, your writing flows nicely and the dialogue between Penelope and the Dolls is really cute and made me smile. It's nice to have you playing with us.. keep it up! 👍
Thank you so much for your comment. It really means a lot to me and I look forward to more contests like this.
My pleasure, I appreciate those who know how to write and between a galore of horror stories some sweet feelings are welcome!
