RE: You wanted Steem to be fair

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Take the question Acid asked in a post few days ago. "What would you do if i supported your growth?".
Do you know what the comment section turned into?

Im a good boy and if you give me some money ill be an even better good boy.

I will bet you anything there are hundreds if not thousands more deserving individuals then those that dropped a comment on his post.
Do you know what those people didnt think about?
They didnt think about the fact that there are others out there that deserve Acids delegation and votes more, they didnt think that there might be a superb talent out there somewhere that could grow into something the STEEM blockchain can showcase. They didnt think that someone out there might be doing something more then them and if that person got that delegation he/she could do much more for everyone.

No. They thought this is my opportunity. It doesnt matter if someone more deserving should get this.
And thats really the crux of things here.
Its only unfair if im not doing well. But ill take anything i can get even if i really should not be the one taking it.
And thats ok. Because everyone is like that. It might be bad for the platform, but most people are like that. They delegate to bots, they lie and cheat their way into reputation. They screw people over. They manipulate... etc.
People always put themselves in front of others and if they dont end up in front, they scream "unfair!".
Whale to dolphin to minnow. Its all the same crap. The "fairness attribute" doesnt belong to any Steem class...
People are people and for most part are the same.

And thats why i will say that "STEEM" is indeed unfair. Because there will always be those that will complain about selfishness, unfairness but when faced with an opportunity to be selfless and fair, honest to the principles they claim to uphold, they will shy away from it.

And thats the most unfair thing of all. Being a hypocrite.

It depends. I know many people who support others through those kinds of posts however, it is an opportuity for many and even though there might be some more deserving, they aren't necessarily known so, what then? If they aren't on that post and no one is willing to put their name forward? This is the problem though as most people who may deserve don't ask but at the same time, they probably should learn to ask also.

The other problem with those kinds of posts as illustrations of the ecosystem is that one can't see who isn't there by choice. I think that in the time I have been here, I have never been on one of them for myself but, I have encouraged others to put their hand up to be considered and, have supported some in that too.

Fairness is a strange animal because, it doesn't exist.

I mean it would have probably been a better idea if Acid made the choice himself. It shouldnt be about what you think you deserve. It should be about what others think you deserve. Thats a problem right now since the focus of people is completely on themselves.

they aren't necessarily known so, what then?

Im not saying that the folks in Acids comment section are hypocrites, i cant know their frame of mind or values. That was an example in case they all were the kind that would scream "unfair" when trash hits trending, quality goes unrewarded or whales selfvotes... But id go with this SNL sketch for your question that paints well, what i mean in this case.

I will have to watch it later as I don't have a headset and everyone is asleep, but I thought I would leave you with a comment from another user I just got:

:D

... indeed. :)
