"Where danger is, the rescuer also grows."
For #StatueFriday - #SevenDaysOutside Challenge - by @erikah, I bring you a couple of statues located in Vienna.
The first statue is a monument dedicated to the Austrian Women who helped rebuilding the country after World War II. The title is of this sculpture is Österreichs Trümmerfrauen (Austria's Rubble Women).
On the plaque, it is possible to read: "Wo aber Gefahr ist, wächst das Rettende auch." In English, it means "But where danger is, the rescuer also grows."
The sentence is part of a hymn by the German Poet and Philosopher Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin, who lived in the 18th and 19th centuries.
This statue is located a little above ground level, near a narrow path by a little garden.
It's a little ironic that, behind her back, the wall is a bit ruined and there's a brick on the floor, already. Looks like more rebuilding will be necessary. 😂 😂 😂
Across this statue, there's a monument to Johann Andreas von Liebenberg, who was the Mayor of Vienna from 1680 to 1683, when he died. This monument is from the 19th century, and its author is the architect Franz Neumann, who lived between 1844 and 1905. (He was also responsible for the plans of the Catholic Church St. Anthony of Padua, also situated in Vienna.)
This is a 9 meter high obelisk with a golden figure at the top, symbolising the goddess of victory.
There is a real sized lion resting at the foot of the structure. Little angels and other ornaments are also included. It's a very complex piece, upon close inspection.
Across the street, you can see this imponent building, which serves as the University of Vienna.
I kid you not. It's really a University, and not some politician's Palace!!! 🙃
