Steemit Slam #2 - Theme: From A Child's View (+Winner Week 1)
Steemit Slam Week 2
The theme this week: FROM A CHILD'S VIEW
Prize for 1st place: 25SBD plus 50% of this post's author SBD payout
How to win:
- Write a poem, story, song or any form of lyrical content about a topic you choose, but from the perspective of a young child (approx. 4-8). This kid can be you from the past, a child from your family/friends or an imaginary one. Children view the world with completely different eyes. We have all been young, we know how it is to experience something for the first time and how we try to put these new things into words. Be it the first snow, how our parents fought, a first crush or feeling physical or emotional pain. To step out of one's own current perspective and try to look at things with the naiveté of a kid should be a worthy challenge for a true poet. It will be especially challenging for some poets who are used to writing very eloquently and who will have to use simple, child like words for this contest. This poem by A.A. Milne is a great example for this topic.
- Publish your text on Steemit with “Steemit Slam” anywhere in the title. Your tags must include “slam” and “poetry”, just like this post. You may include other tags as well.
- Upvote this post to increase the prize for the potential winner. Resteeming is not necessary anymore, but you may do so if you want to support this contest.
- Look for at least one other post during the contest that you enjoyed reading and upvote it. After all, this contest is about community of writers, and your goal should also be to find minds that think alike on this platform. You can find other participants when clicking on the tag “slam” under this post. Supporting more poets is possible and very welcome.
- Post a comment under this post with this roughly this structure:
This is my entry for the Steemit Slam, a [poem/ song/ haiku/ etc.] about [further description of your post, e.g. “my father leaving our family because of war”]
[link to your post]
I also highly recommend reading @[other steemian]’s post about [further description of the post]
[link to his/her post]
We will Resteem several entries that we support, but depending on the number of entries, we might have to get selective as to not flood our follower’s feed.
This slam ends on 16th of July. You may post your text on any day before this date!
Up to three entries per person are allowed!
The participant with the most successful post will be crowned the winner of the 1st Steemit Slam!
Remember, this Slam is about creativity, but also community!
Recap Week 1
First of all, the anouncement of last week's winner:
@haiyangdeperci : A Goodbye Kiss
Congratulations to you, a well deserved win!
It was so pleasing to see all of you supporting each other in the comments of the original post! Many writers have found some new support and also gained connection to other writers. This alone is reason enough to try and keep this contest alive for as long as possible, even though it wasn't able to finance itself this time.
There have been several submissions that didn't write about last week's topic, but that did post some great poetry. If a post has nothing to do with the challenge at all, it won't have a great chance of winning, but please do continue to post, as there are still poetry enthusiasts (this blog included) who will enjoy your content nonetheless!
Sadly, there have been some cases of contestants posting other writer's poems in the comment section without even having upvoted their post... This made it seem like they just randomly picked a poem so that they could post their own. Again, this is about community, and the vote on the poem you shared is mandatory as well, so just take a minute out of your time to check out your fellow writers!
Steem on!
Greetings to all this is my entry for the Steemit Slam #2 (A Child's View). This poem was birthed as I sat at work one day and I had an epiphany. I was getting visual flashes of my daily routine of dropping my son and daughter off at the babysitter, of always saying goodbye and them screaming and reaching out to me , grasping not wanting to let go of me, not wanting me to leave them. Everyday when I went through this my heart broke more and more. I felt like the mother child bond was continually being broken. And as a young single mother I was torn between staying at home with my children at my mothers house for the rest of my life or continue to work and save to get a place of our own and to finally get off welfare. All of this left me on occasion not in the best of moods and I did snap and shout at my children. In retrospect I now know this had to hurt their spirits. So as I sat at work one day thinking about my children I decided to put myself in their place and try to imagine how they felt, I wrote this poem, as what I felt was their emotional response/message to me. This message was received deeply within my heart and I quit my job and went home to my children. I started my own business as a seamstress and jewelry maker. I hope you like and enjoy the poem. https://steemit.com/slam/@rensoul17/poem-do-you-love-me-i-can-not-count-the-ways-steemit-slam-2
I also highly recommend reading @hopehuggs post about her favorite pet as a child:, it is a truly endearing poem:

I also highly recommend reading @rensoul17’s post about a kid being left by her parents to go to school. Yeah I'm gonna keep this description short because the poem speaks for itself! (honestly, I think we have a winner here 😋)

Greetings to all. This is my entry for Steemit Slam #2 https://steemit.com/slam/@rensoul17/today-my-little-girl-came-out-to-play-my-entry-for-steemit-slam-2
This poem story is about my imaginary inner child which ever so often comes out, my mood shifts and I want to dance and laugh a lot and cast all my cares to the wind and be naive and innocent in that moment and enjoy that moment for however long it may last. I pray that my inner child will always be apart of me. I hope you enjoy the poem.
I also highly recommend @symbiose post which gives a child's innocent uncomplicated view on adult issues

This is my entry for the Steemit Slam #2 ( Children's View);
a poem about how (young) adults' issues are often very uncomplicated for younger, innocent kids to interpret, by being naturally open for what's new to them.

I also highly recommend reading @rensoul17 ’s post about the innocence of a playful girl. I actually read and commented on this poem a couple of hours earlier, without knowing about this competition. And I was happy to read it once more as well! https://steemit.com/slam/@rensoul17/today-my-little-girl-came-out-to-play-my-entry-for-steemit-slam-2
Thanks for the support and looking forward to other submissions to read!

This poem is my entry for the Steemit Slam and it's about a child who was left by his/her mother in a relative's house. There are a lot of instances here in my country where a single parent would leave a child to a relative so he/she can go to another country to work. Sadly, it takes them years to return and there are cases where they end up marrying someone else and never coming back for the child. I, initially, thought of adoption houses or perhaps a convent but this is something that closely resembled what happened to my cousin. He was left by my aunt to her mother (my grandma) and my aunt never came back because she met someone and got married. My cousin waited for over 2 decades before he finally accepted that she abandoned him.
My entry for the Steemit Slam - By the Window
I highly recommend reading @symbiose's post about a little sister's bonding with her big sister. It reminded me of the time I bonded with older girls from the neighborhood who were more like my big sister. And there's a twist in the entry somewhere that I didn't expect ;)
@symbiose's Won't you play with me?
Have a busy day, but I wanted to get one in today, so I wrote this out earlier this morning. My entry. I also recommend this entry by @hopehuggs. Good luck everyone!
Mine is a total free form piece of whimsy and it has a super long real back story (there's a link at the bottom of the poetry post) ... but the story that the whimsy told me is this:
This bit of whimsy, is best read as fast as possible. Take a slight breath whenever you run short on air. Except, before reading the concluding "And then," take a deep breath and let the last phrase out in a big sigh.

I enjoyed all the entries. But ultimately I have to most highly recommend

It takes bravery to see a child's point of view as important as your own. Their view is not always fully developed but it is their world. And very often they see more clearly than we exactly what is wrong with our world.
Ha. And then, when we are seen so clearly and simply? Then how brave are we?
May I suggest two things? Ok. Thank you.
-- Yes, I'm effectively saying give everyone 3 votes.
Thank you for creating this fun!
