I agree, energy is the life blood of a technological society. In some ways society can improve the efficiency of power generation, whether it be from solar, wind, ocean waves, or fossil fuels. High efficiency solar cells would be fantastic.
I live in a windy area, hardly ever a calm day. It would be nice to have a few wind turbines that are quiet and efficient, so that homeowner associations would permit them.
Breakthroughs in science seem to be happening at a faster and faster pace. Someone is bound to come up with an idea for a new energy source one day.
And yes, it makes my head hurt too when I think about the days I was studying quantum physics in a graduate degree program.
