Initial Burst Of Feelings When You Begin To Allow
If you have been resisting your feelings due to a lack of an understanding of how they work and what they’re purpose is or if you have been getting over involved in your feelings, which adds to their intensity, then there is a high possibility that you have a build-up of various feelings in your being.
When you first begin to allow these feeling to arise and run their course, you may experience an initial burst of feelings that you have been suppressing for a long time. It is natural for us to feel and express our feelings so when we go in to a state of allowing, the feelings that had been resisted and suppressed are queuing up to be released. It is not natural for us to suppress our feelings and to carry them around with us throughout our lives. It takes a lot of energy to suppress them as they are always trying to come up for release/natural expression. If let come up, they will run their course and over time fade away.
This initial burst can be challenging, especially if you have been suppressing a large amount of emotions over a long period of time. You may experience a number of different feelings surge to the surface when you first begin to allow them to naturally run their course. It could be described as, ‘opening the floodgates’ with the held back water representing the suppressed feelings, and when the overflow of water is left to flow naturally, it returns to its natural state of calmness once the excess build up has been released.
During this phase, it is important that you refrain from involvement with your thoughts and completely allow everything that arises. You may find it easier to be alone during times of intense release because there is so much going on and being released.
Feelings or emotions are energy, emotion = Energy in MOTION. You want to feel the energy of them rather than getting caught up the thoughts that they produce and the situations that trigger them. A thought with a high emotional charge can cause a lot of suffering, but if the charge/energy (emotion) attached to the thought is allowed to run its course it will, in time, burn itself out. What we are left with is a thought with no charge/energy (emotion) attached to it, a neutral thought. Neutral thoughts cause zero suffering and they can be seen and judged for exactly what they are. For example, if the thought was illogical but had a high emotional charge attached to it, we would still get pulled in and taken back by it resulting in mental suffering, whereas if the thought has lost its charge and is illogical, it will simply fade away because we are not paying attention to it, we can now see through its deluded nature and there is no pull from the mind causing us to get caught up in it therefore there is nothing holding it in place/sustaining it. Thoughts with a high emotional charge can cause great suffering, especially if we get caught up in them or resist them.
The idea is not to get caught up in the thoughts produced by the feelings but to allow the charge, which is actually the feeling/emotion itself to run its course. Don’t block out any thoughts that may arise as a result of the feeling, you just stay calm in a relaxed state, being aware of everything but not putting your attention on any one thing. It’s like hearing everything but not listening to anything specific thing. Try it now, relax and become aware of everything that you can hear. The noises around you, people speaking, cars passing or whatever it may be. Just allow yourself to hear all those things but don’t listen (place your attention) on any one thing. If you were to hear a loud bang, your attention would most likely get pulled to that noise. This is what happens to your mind when you have highly charged thoughts.
You cannot hear nor see your thoughts, but you can be aware of them in a relaxed state without putting your attention on them. If your attention happens to get pulled in, it’s fine, just come back to being aware and continue. This is a practice and it is more than likely new for you so give yourself time to learn and train yourself as with anything else new to you. You are training yourself to be aware of what arises without your attention getting pulled in. If you are used to getting involved in your thoughts, it can take time to break this habit so give yourself the necessary time for this also and don’t be hard on yourself if you keep getting pulled in. You could get pulled in by every thought at the beginning, this is normal if you are deeply identified with your mind. If this is happening, you want to catch the point where your attention gets pulled in and bring it back to a relaxed state of awareness again.
During the initial burst of feelings, you could have a lot intense feelings coming up in one day. You could have 3 or more intense releases which would cause significant discomfort but I assure you that it is part of the release process and it will pass.
You used the word "Feeling/feelings/feel" 9 x's in the first two paragraphs, without ever explaining just WHAT you mean by those words, each time I got the sense that you meant a slightly different thing.
I am very literal. Feelings to me, could be emotions, or they could be the feeling of pain I have a constant dose of, it could be me feeling the arm of the chair I am seated in.
The feelings that i refer to are the ones that cause suffering such as sadness, guilt, fear, anger and so on.
Then why not be more specific when referring to them?
I'm just saying.
I will take your advice onboard for the future, thank you.
Society prefers your feelings to remain bottled up, and if need be it will prescribe a bottle of pills to keep it that way.
Good post thanks for sharing
My pleasure.
Thanks
it's a scary picture. Is it a real or digital work.
However your feelings have some exposure here, it's a artistic view.
