We May Be On The Brink Of World War III

in #politics7 years ago

On Friday night, the US, the UK and the French governments all bombed Syria. Specifically, the chemical weapons factories.

The attack was provoked by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad who used chemical weapons on civilians in an attempt to further his militaristic political regime. The bombs were targeted at chemical weapons factories and warehouses up and down the country, however, Russia and Syria claim most of the missiles were shot down. It is widely accepted that the regime's supply of chemical weapons has not been completely destroyed.

The real problem lies in the fact that the Russian president, Vladamir Putin has declared this an act of aggression and that these actions 'will not go unpunished'. Iran - another ally of Syria, said the bombing was a "crime".

With over 2000 US troops currently based in Syria, it is unclear if they are in any danger of retaliation. If Syrian troops do decide to retaliate, I fear Trump may go overboard and lead the US + allies into a war nobody wants.

On the contrary, the simple fact that Syria has been bombed by all these powers is quite disturbing:

  • The Assad regime
  • United States
  • Britain
  • France
  • Russia
  • Iran
  • Turkey
  • Israel
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Jordan
  • Bahrain
  • UAE

Yes, it may be a country gripped by civil war, but these powers are getting unnecessarily involved, often not thinking about the trauma they're likely causing to civilians. It's basically government sanctioned terrorism.

We bombed Syria this same time last year and it is sad that the world just stands back and watches, some celebrate - maybe even call it a success.

But the cold, dark reality of it is that we are bombing another country and it is becoming normal - even celebrated. This is essentially a world war, only it's being held on a small scale, enclosed within in a country in ruin.

But when will the international powers involved, decide to play their war games elsewhere?

Sort:

Are we really to believe that the US cares about civilians in Syria while thousands of people die each year under african government dystopias and the US never cared about them?
Don´t be naive people, this is about political power on a key region, and the US and Rusia are the big players there... sadly, it may lead us to WW3...

Yeah, both Russia and Us can't wait to occupy Syria when the regime finally falls apart or the entire population have killed each other. They may say these bombings are an act of kindness, but they're really an act of war.

I wonder is Syria has vast reserves of oil?

Nope, but Syria has the best strategic position from which to dominate the entire middle east...

Funny how this piece seem not to know any better than one who always feels far away from the "clean" reporting of international politics based on his geographical point of existence - Nigeria.

So you're saying stuff like this is reported differently in Nigeria?

i am saying i am surprised you don't know any better than we do

It'd be interesting if I did get different information for being in a different country haha I guess your government doesn't have much to hide on the matter? Plus, with the internet, everyone has access to the same news stories and such.

Internet. that'd be it. still sick of the news tho. always over speculating. the Trump/Kim Jong Un UN banter few months ago was even more serious than this Syria thing. media be wanking at the prospect of WW3 at any slightest whim of the Fat Ginger living in the Oval. enough already!

I think N. Korea is slightly less worrying, just because no one has attacked yet so it's just another cold war - lots of speculation, but no action.

I agree though - the media hype for this kind of stuff is stupid, but when actual bombs are being dropped on the regular, it becomes worrying.

And tbh, it feels like we're already in WW3, I mean.. 4 years ago Russia literally invaded Crimea - it was in the news for a week before people forgot about it!

Mate this is Cold War + WW3, it's started already and no one can openly invade another one's country unless they want to get nuked.

things we need to knw but ppl doesn't want to knw

It's always important to know what's going on in the world around you

People want to know the truth, but where is the real truth? In UK media or Russian media? Also the situation with Scripal is another secret. And the Human will not understand who is really guilty.

I reckon there's truth to both, however I know there is very little to no censorship in independent news outlets based in the US and UK, they benefit more from getting all the facts out there and being (mostly) unbiased.
However, it does depend on the viewpoint of the author of the article - that's why I looked at a few sources.

I'm not sure what Russian media have said about this, but I'm going to guess they don't want Syria bombed either.

Russian media says the there was no chemical attack in Syria. The video that the world's channels show is fiction and lie. US started to bomb Syria right the day before the Health committee starts to work. I don't know why Russia stays like a brickwall in Syria and defend it? May be because NATO goes closer snd closer to russian borders. The other side the USA have very big natnal debt and the war is a business like you said as i remember.

Russia has lots of inner problems, and Putin's regime tries to distract people from it. And of course, Putin wants to defend Assad's system similar to the Russian one.

Yeah, I'd struggle to believe that Russian media is telling the truth and the rest of the world's news is lying; but it's possible.

Russian television for the past 15 years turns the population into stupid sheep and entirely succeeded in this.

It's also all about money and oil too.

Agree. But inner problems are not the reason to start WW3. I see that Putin don't want to use bombs until the last.

It's also quite tricky to start WW3 when all yours and your friends' families members live in Europe and US. But when you alone manage such big country on your own and you far not so young everything is possible and WW3 as well.

All this will make everything worse. I dont understand why we live in this crazy world. Instead of looking for peace they are looking for more trouble. I can only dream of a nice future one day.

I think it says a lot about the kind of leaders we vote for, if Bernie Sanders had got in instead of Trump - and Jeremy Corbyn had got in instead of Theresa May, I'm not sure these bombings would've happened.

The second people stop voting for 'powerful' leaders, and start voting for caring, intellectual leaders, we'd be able to put all these petty wars and unnecessary conflict behind us.

You are absolutely right! Sometimes I wonder if people are really aware of what they are doing and of the decisions they are taking :)

I said it before - World War 3 has already started, just not on a monumental scale. Our leaders (UN) have effectively failed us

Yeah, it's kind of like the silent war. For me it doesn't seem like a war because of the distance and the vast difference in technology, but there are people who've been in these warzones for years.

Kinda pisses me off when countries like the UK reject refugees because they're refugees thanks partially to us!

As I resteemed this post, I have to add for my followers, that I only did this for a part which wrote all the names of countries and a dictator who are playing this stupid game, and all of them are killing people and they're all looking for their benefits! down with governments!

It is truly horrific, down with the governments!
