What is a myth?

It is difficult to define exactly what a myth is. It is generally described as a story which is the product of the imagination. However myths were obviously more than just folk tales for example to the Ancient Greeks.

Some of them seem to he attempts to explain things that would nowadays be described scientifically, such as how the world began. Ancient pepple had no scientific knowledge so used their imaginations to fill the gap.

Others seem to be elaborations of historical events in which human kings or heroes became like gods and did things no person could really do. This type of story is often called a legend.

Others do not fit in either of these categories and at this distance of time it is impossible to know why such gods and myths were invented and worshiped.

Interesting pondering, en4orc3r, "why such gods and myths were invented and worshipped." Well, in the words of Jim Morrison of the Doors, if my memory and the movie are correct, "People want something sacred." But I think the biggest question is, should we worship something of our own invention or creation or should we worship our Creator? I guess some people don't believe in a Creator but a lot of people do.

The Cambridge Dictionary gives two definitions of the word myth. an ancient story or set of stories, especially explaining the early history of a group of people or about natural events and facts: and: a commonly believed but false idea: so I quess a myth can be more like a legend, or it can be a misconception. Thanks following back.

Story about myths are too complex, because you must have different views when you think about them. You can see it, like you say here, "a story which is the product of the imagination", but you can also see it like a most important thing for creating nations in 18 century. Every nation has myth in its roots, and this is something what is most important for creating nation.

You also need to invent mythical fiat currency to run it.

Nice post - I checked you out and Followed you :)
