Being rich Vs Feeling rich !!

in #philosophy7 years ago

It is common knowledge that a rich person is someone who has a lot of money and the poor is someone who has little or no money. But, what if the person who has a lot of money still longs for more, and the one who has little don’t seek more than what he already has?

I have met some poor people who can easily share part of what they have with someone who they believe to be needier by them. They don’t show the slightest sign of envying wealthy people. Some poor people don’t seem to care about what they don’t have. This, in more human terms makes them rich inside. On the other side some wealthy people always worried about how much they have, they feel insecure when they lose a tiny amount of their wealth. It might be their insecurities or egos that prevent them from sharing what they have with whoever needs it. Feeling vulnerable about money makes them more like poor than rich.

The mentality of the rich; they can easily and simply share part of what they have with others, they work for what is more valuable than money, they utilize their money for something they believes in, and they no longer work for money rather making money works for them, and finally they can appreciate anything regardless for its monetary value.

The mentality of the poor; they value everything in life based on its monetary value, their lives’ core values are based on material belongings and how to manage them, they can’t appreciate beauty, authenticity or any other human value, they exploit their and others time and effort for making more money, they always compare what they have to what others do have and their lives are more of a race than a journey.

Let’s have a peak at the extremist of human conditions:

Some homeless people still have spirit to share a rarely acquired meal with other homeless persons. They don’t have the common fear of how would they afford the next meal, and their egos are not strong enough to prevent them from being altruistic to the point that the average one of us would consider them insane.

Some of them were put into a situation where they have to choose between their free-will and a job that guarantees them money. They respect themselves enough to reject a job that turns their lives into a socially accepted prison, and prefers having the freedom to choose when, where and how they want every moment of their lives to be than a cosy house and a warm meal.

Both their ability to share and their ability to choose don’t make them poor rather make them rich of many things that wealth can afford.

Rich people are those who don’t hesitate sharing whatever they have with others. They are more givers than takers. They value things regardless of how much they would benefit from them. And finally, the difference between being poor and being rich is merely a feeling and has nothing to do with how much you own.

Thank you :)

I couldn't agree more. It takes more than money, more than possessions, to be 'rich'.
