RE: Episode 13: Sailing to Georgetown, Bahamas
hi @hownottosail
what a fantastic adventure to sail around the world! and you are so good at solving the problems you encounter, you must have a lot of experience !! What is your travel plan?
Congratulations and thank you for sharing with us !!
We actually had no experience (two weeks sailing each, EVER) before we bought the boat. But we are lucky that John spent his childhood tinkering with machines and worked on boats - not sailboats - as well as an engineer. It helps with all the repairs!
Travel plans are to head through the Caribbean, cross the Panama Canal to the Pacific. Head to Galapagos and down to the South Pacific Islands and then back to Australia eventually. Around two years all up! However, with all the repairs and sourcing parts in remote countries, we are not sure the budget can handle it. We are weighing up the option of selling in the Caribbean and trying again in a few years with a bit more savings (and now a bit more experience).
We are lucky to have the support of our Patreon Family but with the extensive costs of crossing the Pacific - the canal, Galapagos permits, satellite phone for safety, etc - it may be too prohibitive even with their support! Stay tuned, we are in Windward Islands of the Caribbean now and hopeful.
Thanks again for watching! We release videos every week so stay tuned <3
