Episode 13: Sailing to Georgetown, Bahamas
Attempting to leave for the Dominican Republic, but thwarted by weather we end up in Georgetown in the Bahamas instead.
We get to explore these amazing cruising grounds, play our favourite beach game (bet you haven't played it) and pick up our Patreon crew member.

Another really cool and interesting post. Glad you finally fixed the water pump and now at least you have fresh water. The place there is beautiful and finally have crew member number 3 on board.
We were so happy to get a third, so much more sleep on those long crossings! We are so happy to have the watermaker sorted, now we just need to work out the water tanks. Always something on the boat! Luckily we have our Patreon Family supporting us and helping us to see this journey through, I do not think we could keep going otherwise with all the stress and repairs, even though the good parts are worth it - it is easy to forget that!

Just wow!
I love beaches and seeing your adventures over there made me somehow crave for some sea adventures soon. It is a great place that you visit and one of those places that are subject of movies like Pirates of the Carribean, TV series like Black Sails and Video Games like the Assassins Creed - Black Flag. I just can't imagine that these beaches are once infested by pirates in the 1800s and what strikingly evident was that these beaches are not overly commercialized even until the present and that is what I love about it. The blue waters, the white sandy beaches and some foliage make you fantasize you are in Castaway or Survivor. I love hanging around in this kind of places where you can get to enjoy the waters and have some relaxation without the presence of too much crowd.
By the way, congratulations that you were able to fix your water purifier. Living in a sailboat and with these necessities are very crucial for your travels. Such a unique experience it would be I imagine especially if you are used to living in a bustling city. Just too much stress for me and one of these trips will really be such an extraordinary experience.

It would be another world to sail and explore and discover the world way back when, its crazy to picture that when we visit these ports full of other boats doing the same thing we are!! But we get the odd off the grid place :)

Haha - thank you! We did not want people to think that we were arrogant or believe ourselves to be experts or anything so we thought that name would send the right message ;)
We plan to go for two years from the US back to Australia - it has already been 7 months! But that is looking harder every day. With so many repairs, even if you fix them yourself, the budget takes a huge hit. We have the support of our Patreon Family so we are still hopeful that we can continue on without have to sell and start again in a few years with more savings. But the costs to cross the Pacific - Panama Canal, Galapagos permits, satellite phone for safety, etc - are extensive so we are taking a close look at whether it is possible or not!

We actually had no experience (two weeks sailing each, EVER) before we bought the boat. But we are lucky that John spent his childhood tinkering with machines and worked on boats - not sailboats - as well as an engineer. It helps with all the repairs!
Travel plans are to head through the Caribbean, cross the Panama Canal to the Pacific. Head to Galapagos and down to the South Pacific Islands and then back to Australia eventually. Around two years all up! However, with all the repairs and sourcing parts in remote countries, we are not sure the budget can handle it. We are weighing up the option of selling in the Caribbean and trying again in a few years with a bit more savings (and now a bit more experience).
We are lucky to have the support of our Patreon Family but with the extensive costs of crossing the Pacific - the canal, Galapagos permits, satellite phone for safety, etc - it may be too prohibitive even with their support! Stay tuned, we are in Windward Islands of the Caribbean now and hopeful.

Takes balls to just go like that. It's not something that i could ever do but i can definitely respect it. Such a beautiful part of the world and what a way to experience it. Hopefully the next part will go to plan.

The tough times stick with us for a little longer, but it is also the most stressful part of our sailing plan weather wise (going against the trade winds that below). The future parts of our voyage are now all WITH the winds! Hopefully less stressful on the boat.
Keep your fingers crossed for us as we have had so many repairs and mishaps that we need to reassess if we have the budget to cross the Pacific and make it back to Australia. We are lucky to have the support of our Patreon Family but even with that it may not be enough - the upcoming leg is an expensive one between the Panama Canal, the Galapagos permits, satellite phone for safety on a 21+ day crossing, etc. We are considering selling on the Caribbean and trying again in a few years after saving up again. But hopefully the winds turn...

Sorry to see you were having problems with the water pump. Must be hard to live without water for sure. Cooking on a boat? Wow! That would be a first for me :)

It is a unique experience for sure, and the cooking on the boat has been really fun to learn. Next I want to tackle SOURDOUGH bread! I just need to find another cruiser who has the starter for it to share (and need to be disciplined and keep it alive once I have it)!
