TALES FROM THE MAIN ROAD PART 2

In war situations, most families are completely broken and most of these breakages are emotional and affect mostly women. In many instances, an entire lineage is subjected to rape on a daily basis, grandmothers going to find waters are raped, mothers and aunties are raped, sisters and cousins are raped. Consequences of rape and emotional trauma are only best imagined. Incest is on the increase. Fathers destroying their daughters by raping them and brothers taking advantage of their sisters. My sadness quotient increases to the double when i meet women of easy virtue who say to me; 'it has been taken for free for so long I might as well make money out of it'. Please remember Brock Turner, the young American boy- cocky and self entitled - who raped a fellow student and got off with a light sentence in Stanford university in California. Then his father surprised the world by saying it was only 20 minutes of action. I was ashamed for them, as the discrimination and abuse of women continue.

And now this story from katsina state which boggles the mind. A 15 year old is said to have been raped by a 45 year old man. She carries the pregnancy to term and upon delivery, the baby was fed to their dog by her family. A live baby, a human being! I was unable to sleep after reading the story. The family's reason is that they are trying to prevent shame and stigma as it affects the girl. Read between the lines, we were trying to help our sister.
