Observatory - Show Us Your California

in #mycalifornia20 hours ago

Hi friends,

This post is an entry into the weekly Show Us Your California contest hosted by @socalsteemit where we share an aspect of our California.

High above Los Angeles, in the San Gabriel Mountains, sits a world class observatory - the historic Mount Wilson Observatory.

The observatory is famous for having a number of important telescopes as well as solar mirrors that are studying the sun. My family and I took the opportunity to go up to the observatory and take one of the docent led tours - we had a blast. Here are some pics:

There is another famous observatory in the heart of LA, the Griffith Observatory, but that is more for tourists with a show, manicured grounds, and one telescope - this one is more gritty with its research focus, remote location, and multiple telescopes and solar projects with partners from schools and the national research foundation.

It was fun to explore and learn!

Thanks for coming by and checking out a piece of my California.

Brian
