I think there is always a time and place for more formal proofs. I just love being entertained by the "behind the scenes" stories and the beauty of mathematics.
These stories are also wonderful ways to get my students perking their heads up in class for something dull like proofs. Math is what it is, but if I hook'em with "Oxen Sacrifice," I get 32 sets of eyes right on me.
