MADmusings #5: Is February the new January? Getting down to business…
My weekly round-up from Madrid…
Not much to report from my neck of the woods for this week, but I do want to keep these here MADmusings fairly regular, mainly for myself but for anyone else who wants to play along.
So this isn't specifically focused on anything today, more a ramble of various activity, potential plans and anything else that springs forth from my fingertips.
Uke jammin'
I got a ukulele the other day but haven't got cracking on it as yet. I was thinking of doing some lessons next month that a girl has set up a group for… it's just a case of whether it fits my schedule along with costs involved. It's not all that much in itself (and I mean in time, energy and money) but it all adds up and we can't just do every hobby on a whim.
Business first at the moment, but I certainly want to integrate a bit of music, as I think it will be fun and a nice change. Watch this space (and possibly Dtube's ;)).
Running ragged
Had my first run since around September yesterday. I've played football (soccer) several times since, walked a bit as ever, along with my fairly consistent push-up and sit-up routine… but this was long overdue.
I had some knee problems last time round, so I'm hoping I can strike some sort of balance. I feel a few aches, which were inevitable, but felt pretty good during the run (albeit a fairly slow pace). 2 laps of the main park in central Madrid (Retiro, for those who know it!) and it's a fair walk to get there and back too.
I can definitely improve on that, and I do love the mental and physical aspects of running… I'm just not sure if it's all that healthy long-term, in terms of the pounding on the joints. Also, I have a 10k next Sunday, so hopefully I will make that and record a personal best time… and then look forward to the half marathon in April.
Vegas, baby!
I'm off to a conference/event at the end of Feb, called 10XGrowthCon in Las Vegas! It will be my first time there and a fresh new adventure. It's in the field of business and success, which of course I'm looking to smash as much as possible this year and subsequent years.
I got the bug with SteemFest and now I have to try and restrain myself from signing up to every event I see. But I think this could be quite a trip… we'll see. Vegas Vlog anyone?!
No beer, no BeerSat
I'm not doing BeerSaturday this week as I haven't got anything to write about, ie. no beer. And no, not because I've been on the vodka cheeky. For those who like a tipple and want to get involved, it's a weekly shindig and there's still time for this week, details here. Perhaps I'll be in amongst that again next week.
Friday Follows?
I haven't done a FollowFriday for a couple of weeks, mainly as I haven't really discovered anyone new. I have a couple of names but not enough for a whole post so will wait and see. I find a lot of the content on Steemit a bit 'samey' so would like to discover the writers, creatives and 'funny fuckers' out there.
I probably need to be more proactive on this score but do feel free to comment or write a post on who to follow. Anything fresh & fun!
Crypto-sporidium
I'm not even going to discuss the markets. That is the topic among most Steemians and I'm not even qualified so I'll leave it to them. I don't think it really matters in the end, so best not to get swept up in every wave… there's a whole ocean out there (poetic, no?).
Babbling books
I also started a new feature on various books I'm reading, have read or am about to read… so get involved in that should you be so inclined! Check out my last couple of posts on that here and here. And if you know of a 'book club' type set up already on Steemit then let me know… or we could always start one.
Funky Feb…
My main goals for this month, between now and my trip anyway, is to hit the work. Getting new clients, working on projects, regular Steeming and planning for March.
January has been fairly slow in terms of work, but that's ok as it can sometimes be that way, plus a chance to plan and put things in to place. I'm pleased with the opening to 2018 and supremely optimistic for the rest of the year.
I have been reasonably social (no dry January for me!), so there has been plenty going on on that score. You never really get all the cylinders going at 100% at the same time, so it's a delicate little dance. As I say, work has to be a priority these next few weeks, then it will be Easter and then summer again before we know it!
I'm not setting a February challenge as such, or specific goals but I will record my progress where relevant, and I would love to hear what my fellow Steemies have in the pipeline…
Happy weekend! :)

I have been struggling with injuries to my running program as well. I have a good run last week following a lengthy delay. I was stiff and sore after. Working through it.
I did beersat last week. I don’t like the new system. I may participate still. But all the multipliers are silly imho.
Yeah, it's a delicate balance with the running. Sometimes it can be something simple like footwear, but there can also be deeper problems with some people. I'm just figuring out what works for me!
I just did the last 2 weeks of BeerSat, and probably will continue most weeks (assuming I have a beer and that I can craft a half-decent article out of it ;)). I don't know much about the system/multipliers, or what's the best way of doing it but will likely play along anyway…
Just posted my entry for the week.
