What is own body perception issue? How to deal it?

We live in a time when practically all of us are social media enthusiasts at this point in time. When we look at social media, we see posts that are stuffed with photographs of men who are muscular and models who are size zero.

Individuals, particularly those in their late teenage years and early adulthood, are seen showing up at the doors of plastic surgeons with photographs of Megan Fox and Adriana Lima in their hands, demanding things such as "I want my lips like this, my chin like that!"

It is fairly uncommon for individuals who suffer from body image issues to be dissatisfied with the outcomes of their cosmetic surgery procedures. This is due to the fact that the underlying issue is that they have a mistaken perception of their own bodies.

Body dysmorphic disorder is a condition in which a person suffers excessive anxiety and intense concentration on an imaginary physical defect that is either too minor to be observed by others or does not exist in reality. This condition brings about extreme anxiety and intense focus on the imagined physical imperfection.

In addition to impairing the individual's functionality, this perceptual issue that happens in the individual has a substantial impact on his or her social life, family life, and their professional life.

The patient should be referred to a mental health expert rather than a dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or medical aesthetics physician when going through the application process.

The appropriate course of action is for the relevant physicians to send the patient to a mental health specialist in situations where they have a suspicion that the patient is suffering from a mental health condition.
