Crucial Ways to Feel Good Despite the Negativity You Experience
Everyone experiences tough times and bad days occasionally. Here are some tips to help get back on track when feeling down after facing challenges like a tough meeting, long traffic jams, or health issues with a family member.
If you don’t exercise, try taking short walks. Aim for a 10-15 minute walk each day. Leave your phone behind if you can. Enjoy the time alone or listen to calming music. The goal is to connect with yourself, not to exercise intensely. Walking anywhere is fine, whether it’s outside, on a sidewalk, inside a building, or even in a mall. However, being in nature is the best option.
Incorporate mindfulness into your everyday life. Mindfulness is more important than we realize. Research from the University of British Columbia shows that mindfulness impacts several areas of our brain, especially the hippocampus, which helps us handle challenges and adapt to change.
Mindfulness allows us to manage stress, feel in control, and focus on positive thoughts. For instance, think about how you drink water from a glass. Pay attention to every action, from picking up the glass to swallowing the water. Being aware of daily actions and experiencing each moment fully is a part of mindfulness.
You don’t have to travel far or attend retreats to practice mindfulness. It can be done in just a few minutes each day, regardless of how busy you are. All it takes is to switch off your automatic mode.
Try meditation. If you’ve never meditated, it might sound silly or pointless. You may have to taste something new before realizing you enjoy it. A simple 10-minute meditation can be refreshing. There are many meditation videos available online; just put on headphones and follow along.
In the past, I practiced yoga in the mornings, especially on Mondays, and it helped me a lot. This refreshing approach can boost your energy for the day, giving you more strength to tackle what you want to change.
