A bitter sweet Father's day...

in #life6 years ago

I must confess today is a bit of a mixed bag for me. My father is still around, despite it all, and I'm sure we will talk later, but that's not what has me down in the slightest. When I was growing up, the first man I ever called dad was my grandpa, and he's not around anymore. So... It's hard for me to smile in a day like today.

I feel like I should apologize for being a downer, its not really my style. But, I'm also working at being as honest as I can with myself and anyone who knows me. So screw it, what can I say? I miss him. I'm sure I'm not the only one in our family who is having a bit of down day because of the conflicting emotions.

Grandma is in town, this is going to be the third year since he's gone and I'm sure today will turn very emotional as it always does. I might log back on later today, or I might not, who knows? But, its a good day to spend time with the family, talk about some of our fond memories of our little legend, grandpa, and eat something home cooked.

Well my friends, to those who lost a father.... to those who are feeling a little down today, I salute you and send you a big virtual hug. May their memories live with us, until its time to pass on.

Much love

Big hugs to you, my sweet friend. I am missing my grandad today, too. I know that feeling.. i share the mood. You'll see him in the sunset and the beautiful flowers all around you.. glistening light on those pretty spider webs .. he's everywhere and all around. I believe that. Lots of love. Sending cookies and smiles.

Happy or sad, these days are about appreciation. Lots of people are blessed with great male figures in their lives that they don't call their father per se, and they are worth celebrating to the fullest. Much love to you bro.

You are right brother.. thank you for those words...

Of course dude, hope you had a day filled with fondness.

Much strength wished man. Fathers day is often an emotional day for a lot of people due to not having their loved ones around in a way as they would want so.

Give the lady some loving today and take care!

He died with children and grandchildren; a lot of men don't get that.
They loved him too, which is just cream :)

I empathize with you. My father wasn't always around while growing up and my grandfather helped fill that void. Both of them passed a month apart last year, which was tough for my family and I.

I hope you are able to find joy on this day and smile big when you think about all the great moments you shared with them.

Big hugs to you and your family today.

I feel ya. Lost my dad 9 years ago and I would give anything to hug him one more time. Enjoy your family time today. :)

Air hugs over. Thank you for sharing...

thank you for the kind gesture!

:)

I believe, sacrifice of fathers is less appreciated!
