The longing
The longing, as a profound and disturbing feeling, is the dominant symbol of most popular doines. Its main attributes are mourning, the desire shadowed by the fear of non-fulfillment. The longing is arrogant, an enemy of freedom, related to the death or stimulus of fantasy.
Romanians understand and live - like no one else - the burning of longing. In popular folk literature, the reason for longing is frequently encountered. A very suggestive example is made by the archeologist, epigramist and folklorist Grigore Tocilescu, a member of the Romanian Academy, in a collection of wonderful folklore material:
"Green leaf lemons, / How much sickness is under the sun / Not as burning longing; / For the longing for where it is put, / Makes the heart of the blob, / Makes the heart of the jar / And lives with bitter / Green leaf and hazel, / How sick is under the moon / It is not like the craving of madness / How many diseases You are under the sun / No one is killing them / Only do not let / Make tears home. "
The lyrics reveal a tension of soul of maximum intensity, a feeling and suffering reached the climax. Accents of restlessness and pain are evident, shaking us through the simplicity and depth of expression.
