The boy, who had been stopped, glanced her over with a knowing look and said, “You’re here to confess to Lu Yichen again, right? But you’re a bit late. A girl just asked him out, and now they’re probably somewhere in a corner exchanging love letters. You might want to try again tomorrow, but be sure to come earlier. That girl was already waiting outside the classroom before the bell rang.”

With that, he waved his hand at her and walked off.

Xiao Xiao stood there, frozen for a moment, feeling both amused and helpless. She wanted to explain that she was Lu Yichen's friend, not there to confess her feelings, but he didn't give her a chance before he left.

Shrugging, she said, “Looks like there’s no fate for me to have a meal with him today. Yu Zhe, let’s go eat ourselves!”

Yu Zhe, who seemed to have predicted this situation, remarked, “I’ve heard about it before. Every day there’s a queue of girls lining up to confess to him. I’m starting to believe it now.”

“It’s perfectly normal,” Xiao Xiao replied, her voice tinged with admiration. “He’s so handsome, a top scholar, and his personality is so gentle. How could he not charm so many girls?”

As she spoke, Xiao Xiao couldn’t help but feel a little wistful. A guy like Lu Yichen was truly the cream of the crop. It was an honor to have someone like him as a friend.

Yu Zhe, however, looked at her with a look of disbelief, as though she had just spoken utter nonsense. “Gentle? Are you sure? Lu Yichen is famous for being cold and aloof. Don’t be fooled by all those girls who confess to him every day—he doesn’t even give them a second glance.”

Xiao Xiao thought for a moment, then shook her head. “I don’t think so. I actually find him quite gentle. He’s nothing like the cold person you’re describing.”

“That’s only because he’s like that with you.” Yu Zhe still didn’t buy it. He’d seen enough of Lu Yichen’s icy demeanor himself and had never heard anyone describe him as gentle.

Xiao Xiao flashed a mischievous smile, her eyes twinkling as she teased, “Really? Does that mean I’m special to him?”

Yu Zhe, who could see where this was going, sighed in exasperation and asked, “So what do we do now? Head to the cafeteria? I’m starving.”

“Let’s go, of course. I’m hungry too. I originally planned to eat with Lu Yichen, but since he’s not around, I’ll just go without him. We’ll catch up with him next time,” Xiao Xiao said, her voice filled with playful energy as she walked along, her laughter infectious.

Yu Zhe couldn't help but snort at her antics. “Forget it. I see you don’t even know him. You’re just trying to get close to him, aren’t you? I suggest you give up. Lu Yichen isn’t the kind of person who’s easy to get close to.”

“I’m not even going to argue with you. Let’s go eat! Where’s the cafeteria? Why is this school so big? My legs are aching already.” Xiao Xiao complained after walking a short distance.

Actually, the school she attended in the U.S. was quite large as well, but after walking quite a bit yesterday and spending the entire morning doing the same today, her legs were starting to feel sore.

Yu Zhe, still skeptical that she was just pretending, looked at her face, which was scrunched in discomfort, and, softening a little, asked, “Would you like me to carry you?”

Xiao Xiao was about to agree, but then paused, asking, “How far is the cafeteria?”

“It’s not far, just a turn ahead,” Yu Zhe answered.

With a resigned sigh, Xiao Xiao said, “Well, never mind then… we’re almost there anyway. Let’s just go.”

If it had been further, she wouldn’t have minded letting him carry her, but since it was so close, she didn’t want to risk attracting strange looks from people.
