More Trash from the Media
Hey everybody, hope you all had a good New Year celebration!
Since the holidays are over, I want to get back on Steem and start building up my account, and one of the things that I like to do is rip into trash tier articles in the media. Today we will focus on this article from Slate. Going to give an archived link because I don't want to send them traffic.
This is an interesting article because it seems as if the author has been caught in an ideological trap of their own creation. They begin by talking about the need to bring more light to discussion of GMOs and why false narratives need to be addressed. But then, interestingly, the author goes on to propagate the false narrative that Jordan Peterson is some kind of Alt-Right villain who hates trans people.
The author claims that "Peterson’s oratory cloaks bigotry in pseudointellectual arguments, revealing a chillingly detached dismissal of civil rights." A Slate journalist calling Peterson "pseudointellectual" is ironic, to say the least. This is standard fare for lefty organizations though and shows their fundamental inability to address arguments which they know have them beat.
Peterson's accolades extend far beyond any this author will likely ever have, and the author knows it. In an attempt to sidestep the difficult work involved with addressing and countering an argument, the author instead chooses to name-call and discredit.
Anyway, this is a short post meant to highlight some of the hypocrisy found in the Slate article and not meant to be an in-depth review of Peterson and his accomplishments, although I may get around to doing a post on that some other time.
Cheers!
Interesting breakdown here. In the last US election I had fun reading through all of the media articles and pointing out how every single one would take a tiny fact, then make an assumption about it, and then make assumptions based off of those assumptions, and assumptions of those, etc, etc. It's only enjoyable when you detach and look at it like that imo.
Great post @fahrenheit1984. I'd love to hear your thoughts about my recent post: [INTERACTIVE MIND GAME] This Association Game Will Improve Your Mental Performance And Get You Into A Flow State!
For sure, the media ecosystem is crazy these days. One publication will say they heard something from "a source familiar with the situation" or something like that, then the rest of the media will go on to cite that article as fact. The articles almost always turn out to be false, but the narrative has been seeded and the retraction (if one comes) never makes it to the same number of people.
I'll check out your post now.
