Interesting breakdown here. In the last US election I had fun reading through all of the media articles and pointing out how every single one would take a tiny fact, then make an assumption about it, and then make assumptions based off of those assumptions, and assumptions of those, etc, etc. It's only enjoyable when you detach and look at it like that imo.

For sure, the media ecosystem is crazy these days. One publication will say they heard something from "a source familiar with the situation" or something like that, then the rest of the media will go on to cite that article as fact. The articles almost always turn out to be false, but the narrative has been seeded and the retraction (if one comes) never makes it to the same number of people.
