Let's not shy off to talk about these topics

in Incredible India2 years ago

Let's talk about the problem that every single woman goes through on this planet. As the girl reaches the age of 11 to 12, she starts menstruating. And then it goes on for the next 35 to 40 years of her life for every single month for a period of 5 to 7 days in a month. This is just not about a physical body cycle but it is also a psychological impact in these days that woman goes through. This is the topic which we shy to talk of, not just the man, but we females also avoid to talk on these topics and feel like they are taboo topics which can be very embarrassing.

We need to face the reality. In a Country like India, where this age group is very huge and majority of them living in poor lifestyle conditions it means less hygiene and greater risk of infections. When there is not enough education and awareness on these matters then females end up using unsafe products, which in turn impacts their health and they end up having many uterus related problems. These are not matters that should be avoided to discuss. We create such boundaries for ourselves that we even shy off to talk about our health conditions and then this impacts our mental health.

Very few men will understand this cycle and the change that a female feels during these 5 to 7 days. The dizzy feelings, cramps, pains on a monthly basis and despite of it the woman functions as much as normal, whether it is in office or home is a big deal, but it is taken so casually by the male members in the house. They would not even realize that there is something internally happening to her.

It is just not about the menstrual cycle, but also the menopause period for the woman is as equally painful. The body's metabolism rate goes down and that results in to another set of health problems and weight goes for a toss. The woman has to keep working on her body rigorously along with handling all the other psychological impacts.
I am at a age where the menopause process has begun for me and yes managing weight is the biggest challenge. I have to be careful with what I eat, I cannot just carelessly indulge on any foods. There are so many other problems like the hot flashes, bloating and dizziness. There are times even when my husband cannot relate to my behavior, because they are not normal.

A lot of awareness needs to happen on these topics about not only managing the menstrual process but also the menopause process, both are equally challenging. They should be dealt in a way where the woman does not need to struggle with her physical and mental health. I would say that it is a responsibility of every woman to self-educate themselves on how to effectively manage both these processes for themselves and not rely for someone to understand it for you and give you instructions. What your body feels and goes through only you know it and the opposite person will not be able to completely relate with you. Besides managing the hygiene part in this process managing the mental health is as equally important.

This is a good post @nainaztengra. Coincidentally, my wife was feeling really horrible a couple weeks ago because she was going through her monthly cycle. So I did everything that I could to make her feel more comfortable. I told her she could hit me in the stomach as hard as she could so I could feel her pain…she laughed a little… I was trying to put her in a better mood :)

That's good that you empathize with her situation. I feel it's a normal part of life and these problems need to be talked about in families openly like any other. For this the family environment is important.

I can understand it impacts a lot around us. My hubby is not able to relate with the hot flashes that I get and I have to keep reminding him. He takes care on the matter but still cannot understand it well.

Thank you, friend!
