Preparing for Monsoon

Yesterday we had a big job at hand, the outhouse had to be covered up. It's already started raining and while the roof is well sealed but still from the sides I see a very little water seepage. Last year already my house went through the monsoon stress test and everything was good except for little glitches so this year before the heavy monsoon sets in, I want to take all precautions to be safe. Because from mid-June onwards, the rains are very heavy and sometimes for days together it does not stop to rain. It looks beautiful sitting in the home but then equally the maintenance part has to be taken care of to be safe in all ways.

This year I decided to put the Tarpaulin sheets on all such areas which can pose a threat for leakage. The roof of the outhouse is not made of concrete so this is one place where I have to be always careful. I now feel it's a mistake I made, it was the cost factor so we avoided, but probably in future we will get it done for life long security.

This job is not of my caliber to do it so I had to take help from some local people who could do it for me. The job is almost done here; the sheet is spread all over the roof and then tied up at iron bars beneath. I managed to find this big a sheet, if not it would have been a challenge. I was scared because these people had to get on to the roof and do the job and I was nervous with that part. They were very relaxed, telling me not to worry they do these types of job very often.

This is what scared me, because it's a slope, there is nothing to hold and they are standing on it doing the job.

When it was done, I was so much at relief. Now I am going to keep this as long as it stays, even after the monsoon, because it's scary going up again. The color of the sheet blends with the color of the roof so there is no problem look wise. A difficult task is complete finally.
