SC-S24W6: soft pastel Portrait "A Stranger"

As always I wanted to take part int eh challenge, because it is my favourite topic a human portrait. I am fascinated by the features of human faces because we are all different and there is no two same faces of course, only if you are twins.
When I was thinking about portrait I decided to use my favourite for portrait medium it is soft pastel, I like it because of the pure pigment in chalks and also because it is possible to combine many different colours and mix htem to create a third one. In portrait it is important to show hte 3D of the face that is why it is important to pay attention to the light source. In order to make it easier to understand I decided to take this photo that has already a light source a candle.
I hope you like it and also will enjoy my process of work, I made many photos during the process of work.
My materials:
- cardboard, it is grey colour and that is great to have a colourful backgorund because white is looking better on dark surface than on white
- soft pastel chalk
- soft pastel pencils

Quick sketch with simple pencil

I decided to start with candle and background so that later I can work on face and hair.

Pay attention to light side of face and try to use many different light colours.

This side is highlighted by candle therefore, should have similar colour like a candle

Continue working on face but shadow side.

It is time for eyeys and the face will have a character. I love blue-green colour of eyes

Work on neck, so continue same colours as on face but pay attention to front of neck due to candle light.

Now it is time for dress, I love this style of clothes, like in old time and perfect colour is blue.

Now hair, that is for me the most difficult part but be carefula nd again pay attention to values of colours and you can use any colours that you like.

Now the time to fill in the rest of background.

I am glad that it is finished now, here it is my portrait of stranger.

I would like to invite @m-fdo, @enamul17 and @sultan-aceh for this contest

Thank you Josh, it is a pleasure to hear your wonderful words and I am glad you like the way how I made my drawing :)
Absolutely stunning, @stef1! This portrait is captivating, and the soft pastel medium truly brings a unique depth and texture to the piece. I especially appreciate you sharing your process step-by-step. Seeing how you build up the layers, paying close attention to the light source and subtle color variations, is incredibly insightful. The way the candle light plays across the face is just magical. Thanks for sharing your talent and process with us! I know I will be trying soft pastel in the near future! Upvoted and resteemed!
Thank you for your feedback, it is a long time since I made my last soft pastel work, I normally use a special pastel paper that currently I run out and just tried hte back cardboard of my watercolour block, because I prefer to apply pastel on something darker, then the colours brighten up. I also agree the process of working with soft pastel chalks is hte most fascinating and also once you applied and then blend it you know if you choice of colours or maybe the amount of them were right or wrong, luckily you always add more pigment or lift up some with kneadable eraser.
It is an enjoyable process to do soemthing with soft pastel and you also can try but give time to get used to it :)
Wow amiga que hermoso retrato has realizado. Es muy realista y similar a la imagen de referencia.
Te deseo exitos en tu participacion, bendiciones!!
