Hello my dear Steemians,

My presentation on "RefluxStop" Procedure

Each week has its highlights and sometime they are positive and sometimes not really. For me this week started with a news that I had to prepare a presentation for so called Journal Club. We usually have such presentations every second week and maybe of us have such presentations once in half a year. This time it is my turn.

When I was thinking about the topic I decided to take the condition that we come across very often in our work. It is acid reflux. There are many people who have either mild or very bad symptoms of reflux and after using all the medical treatment we then go for surgical. There is a tradition surgical treatment but since 2018 it was a new Procedure came on market and it is called “the RefluxStop” that is a procedure that requires a surgery, laparoscopic or key hole entry into abdominal cavity, then the lower part of gullet will be cleared and pulled about 10 cm into stomach. The upper part of stomach will be then sutured at left lateral side of oesophagus involving 90 degree of the circumference of oesophagus. In upper part of stomach there will be a little sphere shape ball made of 5 pieces and made of medical silicone placed and sutured over.

The procedure aim is to create a natural barrier that is preventing acid reflux into oesophagus. We also had reviewed the studies and all of them show that the risks of complication from this surgical treatment much less, with the symptom resolution almost over 97%.

Understandably, there are not many data from long term results but we hope that the time will show. At present this is very efficient method and we in our hospital are trying to push and get it for our NHS trust and start using this method.

I was very nervous when was starting the presentation but it was nice and friendly atmosphere and many of our colleagues had many questions. I had such relief, to tell the truth I did not have a good sleep yesterday because I was very anxious but I am happy now that it is done and dusted.

Wow, @stef1, this is fascinating! Your breakdown of the "RefluxStop" procedure is incredibly insightful, especially for those of us who aren't medical professionals. It's amazing to see how advancements in surgical techniques are improving patient outcomes, and a 97% symptom resolution rate is truly impressive.

I can definitely relate to the pre-presentation jitters – it's a universal feeling! But it sounds like your presentation was a great success, sparking insightful discussions with your colleagues. Thank you for sharing your expertise and a glimpse into your professional life with the Steemit community.

I'm curious, what kind of long-term data are you hoping to see regarding the RefluxStop procedure? And for others reading, have you or anyone you know experienced acid reflux and explored surgical options? Let's discuss in the comments!
