Busy week or night shifts
Hello my dear Steemians,
These weekdays I will try to keep my blog active although it is often not very easy, because of the type of my shifts in hospital. I am having 4 long night shifts of 12,5 hours and to tell the truth it is often that my mind is not really free and often some of the events of the night shifts still will be in my mind and will try to digest and work out the information.
When I think back about my first night shift, I can recall that it was quite hard to stay alert and also to function normally maybe because the nature of human body works so that once it is dark then we have melatonin that our body produces and that on its place makes us sleepy. In my case I think I have enough melatonin, because once it is becoming dark I am tired and want to sleep. What I also noticed in summer when it is light early especially here in Scotland, in summer it starts to be light at 4 AM, then often I wake up at 5AM but in winter I feel that even at 7AM I am still very sleepy.
Nowadays, maybe because of having shift work I got used to that and 12,5 hours over night is completely normal for me to stay alert and work full power, but four of such shifts in row is enough. For me, my first shift passed and there are three more left.
So will see how it will go and I only hope that we will have enough beds for admission, often in winter hospital busy and there are many admissions and that makes the whole work difficult. If there are no space for patients to stay, that is worth situation and as always we all complain about bed crisis but it seems to become something very common. I think we need more hospitals, more nurses to provide better care. I do not know how it is elsewhere but NHS here definitely will benefit from more financial support, as it is a state health system then from government.
Hope you had a nice day and enjoying your start of the week.
We have that kind of schedule now, too - 12-hour day or night shifts. I certainly think it is very difficult. My daughter works as a barista - she's used to it, she's fine. My brother works in a boiler room - he's used to it too. Twenty-year-olds like this kind of schedule, but it has to be flexible - to plan as you want.
And I always don't get enough sleep, it seems to me)

It is a metter of time and a habit I believe we slowly get used to many things. So long it does not affect our recreation that is all right, it is important to notice in time that it is time for change.

After the night shifts you must really be tired. Always find time for siesta. It will help you function better.
Sleep is a necessity.
