Make-up, Too much?
When it comes to make-up, I have a simple mantra: whether it's a party, wedding, or something casual, I stick to one kind of makeup. Same base (bb cream mostly), some eyeshadows, a lipstick, basically just three or four items. I don’t and can’t use fake lashes, don’t know how to do contouring, and honestly, don’t want to learn. A simple BB cream, a little blush, eyeliner (I’ve had the same cake liner for years and use it with a brush), and sometimes mascara. I don’t know how to use concealers or correctors and have never even bought them.
Old-school me! I’ve always believed that less is more. And why am I telling you this? Honestly, I tend to get carried away and end up stating whatever comes to mind first instead of focusing on what’s important to start with. Who really cares what I want (or don’t want) from make-up anyway?
A wannabe blogger mindset ;)
Anyways, today I happened to attend/organize one of those events in our ladies' club. No, I wasn’t the one taking the class — did you really believe that for a second? There was another lady, and she was really good at what she was doing. It was one of the most fun classes I’ve attended in a long time. People were throwing question after question, and I was enjoying it too. But I kept zoning out. I mean, why can’t this old bugger of a me, for once, learn something new? Why am I so confident that my way is the best way?
Minimal, minimal… What the heck. Shut up and listen for once. And maybe try it out. Shut up and listen. She is sharing some really nice tips.
My mom is partly to blame for this attitude of mine too. Lol. She has always told me that I look pretty the way I am and don’t need too much makeup. Like, seriously. She would always say, “Please wear the jewelry that compliments you, the delicate, petite ones, always in gold.” The old-school way of things, and now I’m so tuned to that kind of style. You won’t see me wearing anything loud or very big because, in my mind, I look good in those نازک dainty, intricate things. I mean, she doesn’t force her will and is always cautious about what she suggests to me. There’s this appeal or subtle suggestion, like it’s my choice, but she prefers that delicate look.
And then I got married to one of his kind, a creature who further cemented those thoughts in me. Well, he isn’t a bit cautious about what he suggests or comments. Like, when I’m applying my make-up foundation/ base and eyeshadow afterwards, he’ll say, “Wow, good drawing! What are you painting?” Or, “Is your painting complete? We’re getting late.” He’ll even call me from the office and say, “Start your drawing, because I don’t want to be late.” Everything he says subtly (or not so subtly) suggests that I don’t need too much makeup and should go easy on it.
And to be honest, I have the same approach in almost every walk of life. Not every aspect, though... but when it comes to clothing, jewelry, accessories, and shoes (no, not shoes — One can never have too many of those). I know it isn’t the ideal approach. If I were to apply and impose it, makeup salons would probably go out of business. While I feel comfortable in my own skin, not everyone wants to look ordinary (like me). They want to be dolled up, and they have every right to look the way they want to.
But then again, this hype with hundreds of products, brushes, and countless gadgets, don’t they make girls feel too insecure? I mean, I’ve been told many times that I should up my game, that I should do it the “right way.” Like, if I’m getting ready for my brother’s wedding, it should look a certain way...
As if I would listen. Maybe I'm a little too stubborn, a little too confident (?), or too lazy to spend so much time, effort, and money on these things. The cheap me...
This is me ⬆️... the mock model for today's class. I had to arrive at the venue early to oversee everything, and the lady who was supposed to take the class wanted to try the blow-dry technique on me. I said, "With pleasure,"
Are you still looking for some philosophical thoughts, a moral lesson, or something meaningful? Sorry to disappoint you: there isn’t any. This was just my day, and I thought, why not share it with you? And if you know me, you know I’m a little too opinionated, so you get to hear those too. A bonus! Also, there’s no such thing as “ladies’ topics” or posting exclusively in some women’s community. So here I am.
Thank you for reading this far!
Is this a girls' issue? So what if it is ;-))
With make-up I'm as economical as you are; lipstick is a must, blusher is a can and apart from that I go with what nature gives me. I used to think mascara was really cool, but my eyes can't take it any more.
Instead, my two construction sites are: red hair (on top of the grey hair that I have for a long time) and fingernails.
The latter were always my own, real ones, but filed long and sharp and always immaculately polished. Now... A renovation project like this, where you spend a year and a half bricklaying, plastering, sawing, sanding, chopping and dragging, not only costs nerves and money, but also the stability and any chic in the nails!
As my customers look directly at my fingers, e.g. during the introduction to new control units or tablet surveys, this has become increasingly unpleasant for me in recent months. The idea of gel nails matured and eventually led to the purchase of a comprehensive basic set.
The first attempt was surprisingly successful and I regret a little that I didn't try it earlier... ;-))

Your nails look too good. These are the gel ones? Right? You have to kind of make a nail out of some resin and shape it on spot? And the colour... I don't know if I can ever pull it off! Bravo
Yes, I also like applying nail polish. One of my favourites actually and I find it therapeutic indeed. But there is an issue. We can't perform ablution (waddu/ wazu), a prerequisite before offering namaz. So, I slowly gave it up. Now, there are some brands in market which claim to sell breathable nail enamels. Maybe I will buy one of those.
Thank you for stopping by :) and for this beautiful picture!

Yeah well, the colour is not my style, to be honest ;-)) I'd chosen the colour I liked least for my first attempt - I was so sure I'd have to sand it all down again and repeat many times until it worked.
And yes, you're absolutely right: you can either apply the gel and model it directly on the nail or use a plastic mould first, which you can remove once the gel has hardened. That's how I did it at first, because it seemed easier to me.
However, I have never heard of breathable nail polish... Would be cool, not just for ceremonial occasions.

That's cool!
They are advertised as porous polishes. So they are water permeable (according to them). Yes, apart from religious reasons, they would (or should) be more comfortable to wear for extended periods. I will buy, try, and then give you a feedback ;)

Because it suits you. ;)
If I had a spotless face, I would hardly ever wear makeup. But I do love how different techniques like contouring can enhance ones features.
I always keep my nails short. I don't care if they look ugly or man-like. Got inspired by our raven today and painted mine (ignore the cuticles).😛

Thank you for boosting my confidence ;))
Of course. This is called evolution and revolution. These new techniques and tips for enhancing one's features... And as our make-up artist said the other day: "...to create an illusion."
I think I’m just lazy when it comes to learning these special skills. To justify it, I’ve convinced myself in my mind: “Hey, you look good the way you are.” Lol.
Edit: your nails look pretty. They ain't a bit man-like.
This part of your write up actually made me laugh because I’m also in his shoes. My kid sisters loves makeup and since they’re light in complexion and pretty, I always expect them to do a light make up….. but, No!! They will rather make entire family go late for the occasion because of their long drawing on the face.
That’s why we’ll always tell them to bathe first before everyone because of the long time it takes to do their makeup.
But the funniest part about ladies makeup is the one that has to do with eyebrow. Where a lady will shave the whole eyebrow, only to draw it back with an eye pencil…. I ask myself, what is the point shaving it in the first place??🤪🤪

I'm glad you could relate to it! And you could also laugh about it :)))
Lol, never heard of it. But, yes, I am never going to do it. I mean you should be be brave to pull something like this ;))
