Photo contest: post processing #7 - selection of the winner
Today I will summarize the results of the seventh stage of the contest from @bambuka, the object of work in which was my photo. Why did I suggest to the participants to change something in this particular photo, which could well exist in its original form?
Because not everyone likes such photos taken in the background light, when the foreground objects are immersed in darkness and the details are not clearly readable. And if I am quite satisfied with the emphasis on the state of the sky in it, then any viewer could have a desire to see the rest, which I do not attach importance to. But there is also a clear compositional omission in this photo and I was wondering if anyone would notice this moment.
Two participants obviously did not like the composition I made and they offered their solution, which in my opinion further aggravated the situation and did not change the original frame for the better. But this will be discussed later in detail. Now I will start with the name of the winner of the contest, whose decision I really liked. It was very unexpected and bold. It wouldn't have occurred to me at all, but when I saw the photo, I immediately agreed that it solves the problem best and makes the photo completely complete
The first place is taken by the work of the participant @weisser-rabe
What is surprising here is that by making his changes, the participant completely preserved my vision, the main thing that was valuable to me in my photography. You can see the stages of work on the transformation of the original in the contest post of the participant.
Compare with the original: how much is superfluous in it, which had to be removed in order to concentrate the desired state of the viewer.
The work of the participant @barski was the first to enter the competition, and I immediately liked his fantasy on the topic I proposed. Here, too, it turned out that the general state was preserved. The ghostly sailboat, by the will of the imagination, arises only from the colors of the landscape and quite naturally and organically fits into the situation.
I would award the participant the second place for this experience if there was such an opportunity in the conditions of the competition.
Oh, how I was amazed and amused by the picture from the participant @evagavilan ! I was very depress by that factory pipe in the background, but to light it like this so that it could make the lantern glow with its light and kind energy, having started an optimistic dialogue with it, which completely transformed the space, it was necessary to apply a lot of creative invention.
I want to say "bravo!" and award the third place to the participant, although there is no prize for this.
The picture from the participant @michelangelo is about the same key and it appeared after the picture from @evagavilan. For me, this means that the author @michelangelo also liked the work from the participant @evagavilan and interpreted the already created situation with the game of lanterns in this way. This also seemed interesting to me.
What guided the participant @qwerrie when creating his own version of turning my photo into his picture, I realized when reading his competitive post , which presents the stages of transformations in the processing process.
But I liked, among others in the post, only this transformation. I remember such shades at sunset stages and this could well have happened on another day in reality. I liked this photo so much that I was ready to give her the first place, but it turned out that the first picture is the competition, not this one. It surprised me at first, and then upset me. I definitely don't like the competitive option.
The participant @soniaz was the first of all the previous ones to distinguish himself by deciding to approach post-processing by changing the compositional solution of the frame. The lamppost was a significant object and to deal with it in this way is not the best option. You could easily get rid of it altogether and the picture would benefit from it, but such a close distance to the frame cut creates incredible tension in this area. Attention doesn't even care about the rest here, it constantly returns to this pillar. Work on the composition of photographs can be easily learned by studying photographs of famous photographers or reading special literature. Everything is achievable and I wish the participants success in the future.
I liked the composition made by @manuelgil64. It turned out to be quite acceptable in this respect, a frame with a harmonious internal structure.
A game with a color scheme turned a cold northern landscape into a relaxing tropical one. I understand that anyone who lacks something does it :). No one likes leaden cold, but still, it seems to me that it is important not to overdo it.
Maybe it was worth stopping at the next, intermediate stage of processing, which does not raise questions.
Thanks a million! I am so surprised and happy!
Tausend Dank! Ich bin so überrascht wie glücklich!
I'm always waiting for your work to be surprised again :)
Мои поздравления победителю @weisser-rabe!

Благодарю за приз )

Thank you for the work done and the topic you proposed. In my opinion, a rather serious assessment of each work of the participants. But one mystery remained for me...
Could you clarify what you meant by this mysterious phrase...:)
It would be interesting to see your version of the corrected photo.
In my opinion, the original frame requires cropping on the right, and therefore from the bottom or top to preserve the proportions of the original. On the right I see too much space from the edge to the factory pipe. This prevents the balance of the elements of the composition from being achieved.
Идею понял :) благодарствую)
что ж, всем не угодишь, критерии оценки у всех разные .
это нормально: моя фотография - мои критерии :).
Ждём вашего вклада в общее дело. Это будет действительно интересно.
Excellent work from each one of those selected, every day I realize that I must continue studying and read more posts like this, it is a learning experience for my beginning in this world of photography.
Cheers
You can not only read, but also take part in the event :)
Oye espectacular.
