Ice drift on Vologda river 2025

I am a person who might be surprised by an ice break only on some Yenisei. I've seen powerful ice drifts in my life! The Vologda River cannot boast of such a thing. Here, the ice flow is so modest and inconspicuous that it can pass in an hour or last three days.

The current on the river is very weak even in high water and the ice moves slowly.

The only thing that might interest you in terms of the picture is the geometry of the ice floes.

But this year we had no luck with that either.

I have beautiful pictures of last year's ice drift.

But as a reporter, I just have to capture this phenomenon as a fact.

By the way, this is the second ice break this year!

The first was on the first of February, when the thaw melted the ice and it began to break.

But there were once severe floods here, which is hard to believe.

In old photographs from the last century, entire streets are flooded and even churches.

I wonder what should happen now to flood as well?

In Sukhona and the Northern Dvina, I have no doubt to this day that they are capable of such a thing.

But can tiny Vologda really do that?

Okay, I believe it! When I first arrived in Vologda in November 2019, there was a strong flood, where the boat station was flooded.

This year, it wasn't worth waiting for anything at all: there was no snow in winter, and last autumn was arid enough to cross the river by foot.

But everything is cyclical and everything can happen again!
