I don't believe any of this priest's silence. Silence only counts if it harms no one. Those indulgences like they sold in the Middle Ages were also pure scams. Those who had money were forgiven sins with no problem. So the rich got away with everything while the poor were blamed and exploited.

In my family, no one is Catholic. Only best friend was apparently baptised once or at least her husband who is Indonesian. Both never go to church and will never confess. I was already dumbfounded that they suddenly wanted to get married in church after almost 30 years together. And also the priest said the last time he saw them was when they had children baptised. I didn't even know that. Hahaha. I don't believe they went back to church either.

With us, by the way, most Catholics live in the south of the Netherlands bordering Belgim. All the burgundian lifestyle. long live the fun, Carnival, nudity, drunkenness (many breweries started with the monks all Catholics preaching simplicity) and you name it. Not really my way of life.
