Could my uploaded memories make me immortal?
Memories are an everchanging kind of very viscous liquid. They tend to not keep their shape over the years, sometimes due to natural degradation and other, due to our own will to replace them with not always accurate approximations of the truth. Many times, we also choose to make them fade away, due to shame, trauma or just plain and simple lack of importance. Our memories are subjected to the super-imposition of consensual reality and group dynamics and rules, as most of us tend to erase any shock value out of them, for fear of going mad.

Are my memories the sum total of what I am? Are any memories the representation of anyone? These are questions for the ages that force us to confront the true reality of what we are. Are we finite organisms subject to the rules of a deterministic universe? Does quantum superposition play a part and we are involved in a morpphogenetic field matrix? Are we finite souls subject to the rules of an all knowing divinity that has a far more perfect memory than ours? Are we bits of a universal god soul that decided to explore the different aspects of itself? I could go on with the questions, and still, I would not find one that fits the answer I'd like to get.
No. Uploading our memories wouldn't make us immortal. This thing that I am here and now, will only be immortal as long as there is someone that remembers me. My hope is I am part of something greater and more amazing that I only sense but cannot assure. This hope makes me a religious man of sorts, but not totally, as I am neither smart nor knowledgeable enough to be certain of anything and that prevents me from having faith. Still, I don't believe that I am my memories, and I cannot fathom a way to turn me into them, as they are only the result of where I was and have little to do with what I am.
My vision of a technological form of immortality, in the sense that I would continue to live on as result of transfering Me into some kind of machine is simple: I don't believe it will ever happen and I'm pretty sure It's not possible. Of course, I would enjoy a couple more decades of life like just like the next man, but I would be denying myself two very important things: the appreciation for life that a predictable end brings and the possible joy of discovering what's on the other side of this adventure. Would you rather be a wax figure in Madame Toussaud's or be turned into Frankenstein's creature? My choice is obvious.
The new Prometheus I will be not.
Steem on!

Yes, memories are one of those things. With some, especially from childhood, I'm not sure whether it's actually a memory or just the retrospective construction of a story.
Immortal, oh please don't. I can only think of the saying: ‘Death is a trick of nature to bring forth more life’. So I'm happy with things as they are.
About the language: lately I've been writing my posts mostly in German only, I assume that for many it's just a click to translate. I wouldn't publish the same post in a different language. More readership comes automatically over time, depending on how actively you communicate with others. Comments are (in my opinion) one of the most important things here and fortunately it's also what I enjoy most.

Hi. Thanks for the comments.
I guess I will eventually publish stuff I produce in other languages, but there is no stress in hoarding readers or getting rich by publishing here.
If I want to get something out there and make some money, I will just publish it on Kindle and merchandise it on my accounts on facebook and Linkedin, where I can potentially reach some 14 or 15k followers. Also, I don't really need to make money with my hobbies, as I am a well established professional with a very good income for the average of the country I live in.
My being here is but a way to explore my hobby amongst people who share the same interests as me and to possibly exchange ideas with people who are a step above the users of other platforms in what it regards seriousness and capacity to interact by themselves. What interests me most is that this is a social platform that seems to attract people with original thoughts that don't waste their time plagiarizing other people's ideas and, in effect, make life difficult for copycats and those guys that just go around looking to extract a quick buck out of everybody else by posting some dumbshit stolen out of wikipedia or out of someone else, or something they did in 5 minutes with the help of AI that's worth zero in terms of quality and originality.
So... More readership is not really my goal. I rather have better readership. My ramblings on languages was based on the idea of making my stuff available to more of this good people and not to turn it into a kind of marketing move.
I don't really care how many people read what I write. What I care is not being robbed out of the rights I earn with my hard work and to be read by people who appreciate what I write and are capable of having an intelligent discussion about it.
Steemit is a difficult platform to master for someone who just wants to troll around and doesn't really have the numbers to make any one writer famous, so, I guess you can plainly see that my intentions were not about that.
On another matter, thanks for the idea to get all the texts under the same tag. I now believe that to be the easiest and, probably, most effective way to do it, as you just have to list that tag from the most recent to have them all perfectly serialized.
So, my friend, few or many, what I like is to have good readers and I'm very happy with the ones I've met since I got here, so, I'm sure to stick around, no matter what the rewards, and even if there are none. I'll be perfectly happy as long as I have interesting people to talk to.
Have a great weekend.
Cheers,
Pedro

When I made my comment, I wasn't so much thinking about earning money. It was more the experience that some newcomers write good posts but get little response. In my opinion, comments are very important here, that's what I wanted to get across. For example, I'm only writing to you because Chriddi commented on your site, otherwise I wouldn't even know you existed ;-)
Have a nice weekend too!

Sure. And that's the way it should be. And I'm very happy to have met you.
I hope I haven't sounded like I was over reacting to anything you said. I just wanted to get my motives across. Anyway, I may have misread your comment. Sorry if I did.
Chriddi is cool. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have known you existed, either.
Have a really great weekend.

In fact, I was a bit surprised because you seemed to be referring my comment more to the rewards and I had new contacts in mind. But one goes hand in hand with the other, so it's all good.
By the way, I think it's a small miracle that we can communicate at all, because it's not always easy from mother tongue to mother tongue. As I don't speak English fluently and am even less confident with English spelling, I type my comment in German at DeepL to get it into English. And you are supposed to understand the gibberish that comes out of it - a small miracle if it works ;-)

I think this could give an interesting discussion with @ty-ty... ;-))
Bring her on... I'd love to discuss it with someone that's clear minded about the subject.
BTW: Do you feel that if I translated some of there articles into a couple more languages, it would increase readership, or can I rely that most people here are English fluent and there's no need to do it?

I brought HIM on - but it was too late for today. He will cross your path ;-)))
I think to post in English is a good basic for broad readership. To be honest - I don't know if here is an active portuguese Community...? This would be a special place to publish in mother tongue. I recommend sometimes to add a version of a post in native language. For a good use of a translation tool it can be helpful...
Well... I don't plan on using any kind of translation tools. Yet, as I am fluent in a number of languages, I am able to produce translations into most european languages.
Portuguese is, I believe the 6th most spoken language, globally, but, I dug around and found few people with that one of my native languages. I would do it in maybe one or two out of spanish, german and italian.

We have brazilian Steemians as far as I know... No - I didn't mean your use of translation tool. I've read about your linguistic abilities ;-)) But when an - let's say indonesian user translates your english post in his language, he has probably better the native original as a basic. May be there is no difference in your case. What do I want to say: English is fine ;-))
Cool. That makes for better use of my time. I try to make my sentences short and direct, so they come out sort of ok in the translator, so, I'll devote my time to better pursuits.
Thanks.

I also didn't find many french speakers. I'd love to be be able to do it in Korean, though, but, unfortunately, I'm still to learn that one. :D
And, sorry for the SHE, regarding your friend. The name, somehow, suggested a female, in my mind. :)))

Same here ;-))
lmao. :D))))
If so, what languages would you suggest?
