We all, the rich, the poor, the sick, all of us have a common friend called time, and we are told that that he doesn't wait for anyone, that time just keeps going and going. If our dear friend just doesn't wait for anyone, does he really solve everything on his way? Well, here is what I think of our common friend.

Do you think that time heals everything?

I remember there was a time, I was really hurt and in the process of telling my friend what really happened, then, he looked at me and said time healing all wounds. But truth be told, I don't think it does. I know he really just meant well for me, but I just can't agree. I can't seem to agree that time heals everything, yes, it is true that time can make things feel a little less painful, but it doesn't get to erase the pain away completely.

Please don't get me wrong, time can indeed feel like a great healer, but it is never a magic cure for everything. For example, let's assume I have a wound, with time it might eventually cover up leaving a scar, now that scar is there as a reminder of the pain I once felt, to which time doesn't just erase that pain away completely, I see time as rather a friend helping us to learn to live with it. Here is why I don't feel time heals everything.

Unresolved Issues:
Time can't fix problems we are not willing to address ourselves. This is because we can put a band-aid on a broken bone, can we? Therefore, we need to deal with the underlying issue on our own and not just ignore it that time will fix it.

Emotional Scars:
There are times when we seem to have moved on, but still the memories of the pain and hurt still linger, like a ghost in our mind, haunting us with the past.

Lack of Action:
Time alone can never make us stronger or wiser, just as we don't expect a plant to grow without water and sunlight. Therefore, we need to actively work on ourselves and make the needed changes.

Personal Growth:
This means that it is up to us to learn and grow from our experiences as much as time can present a perspective for us. Just like having a library full of books but not reading any of them won't help us, we need to actively engage with the knowledge.

Sometimes, we feel like we are carrying around a backpack full of old hurts, but then, they are not as heavy as they used to be, but then, they are still there, popping up in our thoughts at the most unexpected times, reminding us of the pains we have once experienced.

Therefore, time can be a great friend, but it's not a replacement for healing because we need to actively seek healing for ourselves, to deal with the pain, learn from it, and move on.

You've had a difficult situation that you're trying to heal. Tell me about it.

I don't think there is anyone who is reading this right now that hasn't been through a difficult situation, in fact, I have found myself in a lot of such situations and here is one.

Currently the market is so brutal that I have lost a chunk of my savings in this crazy bear market, which feels like everything I have worked for over the years is just slipping away, just like watching our favorite toy get thrown in the trash.

The thoughts of what I have lost haunts me, and I am left with asking myself what I could have done better or what and what I could gotten with it if I hadn't invested it. But then, like most people, I got caught up in the hype and thought I could time the market, now here I am, burned. Now I'm just trying to pick up the pieces and it is tough for me to stay positive as it feels like everything is going wrong.

Anyways, I am not giving up just yet, I am going to learn from this mistake and get back on track, so I will do my research more, take things slowly, and build myself back up, even though I know it is going to take time as I learn through this experience and come out stronger.

Do you think that time is a magic solution?

Time is never a magic wand, but more like a patient friend who helps us work through our tough times. Just like a broken bone doesn't just heal itself, but rather we need to set it, put it in a cast, and let it rest, that is just how time lets us see things clearer, get stronger and find new meaning.

See things clearer:
We understand what happened better as we move further away from it.

Get stronger:
We learn ways to deal with the pain and become tougher.

Find new meaning:
We sometimes discover new paths or find strength we didn't know we had.

However, just having time is never enough, we need to actively try to heal ourselves too, i.e., we talk about our feelings, ask for help, and work through the emotions. Therefore, while time is a good helper, it is never a magic solution.

How can words heal a person?

Trust me, words can be very powerful as they can hurt, but they can also heal acting like medicine to the soul, and here is how words can help heal a person;

Validation:
When someone truly listens and understands what we are going through, it makes us feel seen and heard, just like we are having a warm blanket on a cold night.

Comfort:
Words of encouragement, empathy, and love can offer a sense of peace and support, which is like having a friend to hold our hand when we are scared.

Hope:
Sometimes, all we need is a little reminder that things will get better, just like my friend did. So, words of hope can light a fire in our heart and give us the strength to keep going.

Inspiration:
When we hear stories of others who have overcome similar challenges, it can give us the courage to face our own without fear or doubt.

However, as much as words can help, not all words are healing, because sometimes our words can be very hurtful and make things even worse, and that is why they say the tongue can be a double edged sword. But then, when words come from a place of love and understanding, they can be a very powerful force for good.

Finally, reflect on the phrase:

They always say that time changes things, but in reality you have to change them yourself (Andy Warhol)

It is true that time can make things different, but it doesn't do it all by itself, just like having a messy room, time won't magically clean it up for us, we have to roll up our sleeves and do the work. Therefore, to my understanding of this phrase is that change doesn't just happen on its own, hence, we have to actively participate in it.

Time might give us the chance to see things from a different angle, or maybe we will even gain new skills and knowledge, but then those things won't magically fix the problem, as we need to use that time to take action and make the changes we want to see.

I can say that time is like a river, constantly flowing, and it might carry us along, but it is up to us to steer the boat and choose our destination, as we can't just sit back and hope the river takes us to where we want to go.

Therefore, while time can be a powerful force, it is not a replacement for effort, which we have to put in the work and make the changes for ourselves to get the results we want.
