Greetings and welcome to my blog. Having being a moderator for a while has opened up my eyes to the need for more steemians who are willing to engage with others in a quality way.

Why is steemit a social media network when we can’t actively engage with one another? That’s food for thought…

You come online and drop your post and zoom off and on logging in again you expect to see notifications and possible upvotes or people who commented on your post. The question is if everyone drops off their posts and zooms off, how will the social side of the platform thrive?

We can make as much relationships as making ends meet. Meanwhile you are checking for upvotes, how many users do you upvotes daily? Alot of users have very low voting CSI which is a pointer to lack of support for other users. In as much as you want to be supported, support others. Little drops of water makes an ocean they say.

Almost every user tags other users in engagement and learning challenges and almost every content out here. How many of the tagged users commment on the posts they are being tagged to talk less of making quality comments?

It’s amazing how a post has three users tagged to it but all you see are comments from bots and moderators on myriads of posts. What do you do when you see a tag?

Ignore it and not even check it out or open the tagged , ignore the notification and keep scrolling waiting for the next notification that tells you that you’ve gotten an upvote?

Some steemians have turned to snubs to even snubbing important mentions. I once hosted a contest and one of the winners post who was mention in the result post was out of voting stage and so I asked her to ensure she has a post for her booming vote. Till date, there was no reply from this user and she’s still active.

So my question is what happened? Did she see my mention and felt it was one of those unending mentions and didn’t even bother to check it out? Well her loss.

I have selected people for quality posts curation and they never even said anything on the selection post. Didn’t they get the mention? They did and probably ignored it. I’ve seen many contest result posts with not a single comment. Booming support posts without a single word? Does it mean the users do not know they were selected for a prize? That’s the level of non engagement.

I’ve been to some users blog and tried engaging with their posts and not a single word from them, yet we are in a social media space. And the circle goes on and on.

There are a lot of comment contests out there but how many of them actively get users commenting weekly? These contests are to promote engagement spirit among steemians. Having studied the make a noise project by @alejose7ven, you’d almost see the same set of persons coming out as top engagers. These same people are the driving force promoting commenting and quality engagement. Still the same people.

I have been encouraged by the work of team true light curation team spearheaded by @wakeupkitty and her team who go around curating quality comments throughout the ecosystem. Such tasks are Herculean of course because it takes more searching to see quality commmets than it is to see posts. Quality posts are everywhere but not comments.

Some who try to engage end up writing a few words and not reading through to understand what the writer wrote and be able to know how to truly engage.

I made a diary game the other day and someone tried commenting on my post. Reading through the few lines of what she said, I just knew she didn’t even read through my post else she wouldn’t be talking something off. And some would copy your own posts and put it right back to you. I see that a lot and am wondering if these users do not know that it’s their posts that were paraphrased and sent right back to them.

I just had that experience some days ago and I shook my head. I said this is my post given back to me in another light. That’s not good commenting. If there are good comments, there are bad comments. We must seek to engage the right way.

I held a comment contest some weeks ago and I asked, what do you prefer, a comment or and upvote? A contest idea given to me by wakeupkitty when we engaged in this topic about quality comments.

Most of the users such as @deprincedeman, @nidhu, @okere-blessing, @tykay019, @leigth, @zisha-hafiz to mention a few answered that they prefer comments and they were talking from the stand point of a comment being helpful to be instructed, engaged and also gain visibility.

I asked one of the users @deetslka06 who said he preferred comments “what if you get only comments and no upvotes? And this was his reply

No organization without a socialization aspect of life. If the organization must grow, then the leaders must be ready to listen to other experienced and professionals. In this context, what I mean is that: CSI in this context is like the organization. For it to be developed, this aspect of life socialization must be imposed. If everybody chose to just like post in Facebook, nobody will learn from his or mistakes. Nobody will wake from his/her slumber. But socialization makes it possible through the comment section. Users can interact, share ideas and build trust.
This is similar to steemit. If socialization is devalued, and upvotes is embraced, there'll be no improvement. To me, steemit is not just a burden for financial uplifts, it's a bridge for learning. So, we learn by the corrections we encountered on the system. As we socialize more and more, it begins to attract quality upvotes, booming supports.
I don't the second question will be possible. Value gives money. When you socialize with others, trust is built and quality supports is also given.

I love his emphasis here…

I don't the second question will be possible. Value gives money. When you socialize with others, trust is built and quality supports is also given

And I totally agree with him, quality and good commmenting is value and value is always rewarded.

While just dropping your posts and running off would only make you wonder why you are not being supported, making quality commmets and engaging with other users can get you that visibility and also support.

A good comment is as quality as a good post. More curators needs to arise to support more quality commments as team true light does and also more individuals should support and engage in making active and quality comments as that the way to keep our social space alive and engaging.

This is a clarion call, engage, engage, engage. In all your steeming, engage qualitatively with others.

Thank you for reading through, hope you would drop your good and quality thoughts on this piece. Happy steeming.

You are absolutely right. Many steemians post their content and leave without engaging with others, which makes meaningful interaction difficult. I also want to share something, I once commented on a post with a question, but the author only replied with a simple thanks. It made me wonder whether they actually read my comment or were just responding for the sake of it.
Some users seen uninterested in engaging or building connections. You expressed everything transparently, describing exaclty what is happening.

Thank you so much for mentioning me and I will always support this community for engaging and making connections.
I hope people will understand these things.
I don't just seek support in the form of upvotes, I genuinely want to improve my posts so I can create content that people truly enjoy reading. My goal is to share meaningful and engaging content and for that I welcome the valuable feedback and suggestions for improvement.

Wooow. That’s so lovely to hear from you. It’s really a menace that should be considered. Making good and quality comments is as encouraging and we Ll should put heads together to see it come to fruition.
As for this

I also want to share something, I once commented on a post with a question, but the author only replied with a simple thanks. It made me wonder whether they actually read my comment or were just responding for the sake of it.

I thought I was alone in it. What do you think, sometimes I tend to draw their attention to it. Do you think it would have been rude to tell that user that you asked a question and ask if he or she even read your comment?

The last one I talked about, I simply left it because I feel the user would be embarrassed If I go telling her that she didn’t read the post hence made an off comment. But on a second thought I feel am wrong for keeping quiet cos it would keep proliferating same attitudes. What do you say to that? Do we correct them or just overlook their complacency?

The last one I talked about, I simply left it because I feel the user would be embarrassed If I go telling her that she didn’t read the post hence made an off comment.

Actually, it can happen once, and we might think that maybe the perosn did not want to answer the question for some reasons. But it happens repeatedly, it becomes a sign of ignorance.
In my opinion, we can try to correct them, but they still choose not to respond then there is nothing we can do.
Ultimately it is their choice whether to engage or not.

But we always make an effort from our side to ensure that everyone stays connects, helping the community grow. When people engage and support each other, it creates a positive and encouraging environment for everyone.

Some people want their content to be read with genuine interest and enjoyment. So it is important that we support and encourage them. Engaging with their posts meaningfully not only motivates them but also strengthens the sense of community.

I also love to engage with people and I support the good content.
Thank you so much I hope this post makes a great impact and encourages people to appreciate meaningful engagement.

Well said friend. You’ve captured it all. Am glad to know that there are people like you who is willing to promote and uphold quality engagement. Thank you so much for stopping by…steem on

You are always welcome.

@nidhu sincerely your goal should be the goal of every member of this platform, that way everyone of us will always work towards delivering meaningful post that someone else can learn from and not just to post for upvote.but my opinion to this post issue is that a lengthy post is usually not easy to read through considering the number of contest that one wishes to meet up ,so if we can have moderate post in length it will definitely attract readers attention.in addition, some of us have our various working places, coming back from work then fixing your eyes on your phone over a long write-up before you start your own post is so challenging
I really wish people can open up so that the challenge of not reading and commenting on post can really be handled

You are absolutely right and we truly appreciate your suggestion.

You said well, reading a lengthy post is not easy. Maybe we did not comment on other posts, but if someone takes the time to comment on your post, it becomes our responsibility to reply so that the other person doesn't feel ignored. That is my point- I am not forcing anyone to comment, but engagement is the key to everyone's growth.
Thank you so much for sharing your concern. I like it that people actually doing discussion on this.

You are right, engagement all the way.thanks too for your time

You are always welcome

I must admit that your post brings up a strong point which is about the importance of engaging in our renowned platform Steemit. Many users among us did their posts and disappeared, they didn’t feel any necessity to interact with other Steemians.

I completely agree that meaningful comments will help the writer improve, feel, encouragement, and chance to be more visible. Being ignored by other contests miss out us from building a core connection and relationship with different perspectives, different cultures, and different ways of thinking. When we get tagged that means the author wants to be a part of that post and share our own feelings involving in comments. Ignoring it makes not only disrespects the author but also shows less interaction about this platform.

Another interesting part you have mentioned about low-quality comments. Just writing a few words, focusing only on the pictures, or comments based on the tagline.

This post really being a wakeup call for all the Steemit users and I deeply wish everyone would read this thoughtful post and become active in interacting with other Steemians.

Thanks so much @alexenerpeace for this call of engagement on all of us.Just like you rightly said, some of us are all anxious for upvote which i was one of them.when i joined this platform my first mindset was relationship with people though to the fact that every social media goal i to bring people from all works of live together. but i noticed it wasn't that way,so i thought all we do here is focus on yourself and post. i guess someone else might also feel same.but with this call of engagement from you, most of us will understand that steemit can be a place of fun and thereby making it more exciting to work.thanks once again for this post, it's really important for us to feel at home here

You mad e a point too. I also came with that mindset of just making ends meet but steemit is more than that. Maybe the people who invited us didn’t do justice to the foundational mentoring hence we must all adjust and do the best we can to push the system forward as a social place.

Thank you sis for stopping by, there’s a little bit of mistake in my name tag, it’s alexanderpeace. 🤗

Thank you sister for stopping by and contributing your thoughts on this all important subject. It’s been an urge in my heart that I decided to write concerning it. I believe the platform would be a beehive of engagement and relationships if half of the users appreciate the importance of meaningful engagement. We keep pushing and informing hoping for the best. Thank you for stopping by.

Very well said. Good and engaging comment is a motivating force to know that your efforts are appreciated and that your inputs are valued. I usually feel awkward when I make good posts and no one ever interacts but moderators and the faithful bots always being the first to drop their comments. It can be discouraging a lot.

Thanks for stop by and saying your take on this.
