Healthy Hair Coloring. Herbal Colors as a Promising Alternative to Traditional Chemical Hair Colors

in #health6 years ago (edited)

Many women and sometimes men around the world change the color of their hair.
Why?
Somebody just wants some change. Somebody is get bored of the way she/he looks and hair coloring is a quick and easy way of style refreshment. Somebody follows fashion.
Some people have premature grey hair and dye hair to look younger.

There is a great variety of hair colors. But roughly speaking we can divide them into two groups depending on the type of coloring agent: natural (herbal) and chemical (synthetical).
Chemical hair colors can change the color of your hair dramatically. Even if your nature-color is dark-brown, using chemical colors and ingredients you may get blondie hair. But is it safe? What price do people pay when they color their hair using chemical colors?

Chemical colors contain two main ingredients: colorants and developer. These are chemical substances which can have adverse effects (hair breakage, allergy, skin problems).
Most chemical colors contain ammonia which makes your hair dull, fine, brittle. Some modern chemical colors do not contain ammonia, but they contain other chemical synthetic substances. Just take a hair color package and examine compocition.

Today many people try to take care of their health. They are interested in what they eat, wear, what cosmetic products they use. People want these products to be safe and nontoxic.

May hair coloring be safe? Yes, by using natural (herbal) hair colors, e.g. henna (Lawsonia inermis), indigo (Indigofera tinctoria), neutral henna (Cassia obovata). Herbal colors can even strengthen and nourish hair.

Hints to know before coloring hair with natural (herbal) hair colors such as henna, indigo, etc.

  • These ingredients are of plant origin. Some people MAY HAVE SKIN ALLERGY when using natural ingredients. So do skin sensitivity test prior to coloring.

  • Use ONLY CERTIFIED ORGANIC NATURAL COLORS. It is known that dishonest manufacturers add some impurities which can be dangerous and cause allergic reactions.

  • Before coloring your hair with natural color it is advisable to wash your hair with silicone-free shampoo at least for two weeks prior to coloring;

  • There may be some problems with permanent chemical coloring, after coloring hair with natural colors (henna);

  • Natural colors do not give such a big variety of resulting color as chemical colors do. Besides you cannot bleach your hair and become blondie (e.g. if your natural hair color is dark) with natural colors.

  • Grey hair can be colored with natural colors. But do not use solely indigo if you have grey hair. Otherwise your grey hair can become greenish. Use indigo after henna if your hair is grey.

As I mentioned above some manufacturers may add dangerous impurities to henna.
So buy ONLY certified natural colors. For example, LOGONA Naturkosmetik (CERTIFIED natural cosmetics, made in Germany), SANTE Naturkosmetik (CERTIFIED natural cosmetics, made in Germany), and Khadi Naturkosmetik (CERTIFIED natural cosmetics, made in India).
Khadi Naturkosmetic has different variations of colors (almost the same situation with Logona): Dark Brown; Light Brown; Hazel; Red; Pure Indigo Black; Black; Henna, Amla and Jatropha; Light Blond, Middle Blond, Golden Hint.

But, please, pay attention that such colors as Light Blond, Middle Blond and Golden Hint DO NOT BLEACH your hair. They gives ashy dark color or gold tone or just gives healthy shine (if your hair is dark). So if your hair is dark, light-brown, red, etc, you will not become blondie with herbal colors, because they do not bleach your hair.

Khadi herbal colors are produced as powders of plants (mixture of dried and powdered plants). You should add warm or hot water to make a thick mixture to color your hair.

Logona has powders as well as creams. But Logona cream colors are not always effective in coloring grey hair.

If you decide to try natural herbal colors, READ information leaflet. It can give you all the necessary information. Besides Khadi has youtube tutorials.
