Today was supposed to be a recovery day...Oops.
Confession time...I'm an addict
But it's ok!! Because being aware of your weaknesses means that you can transform them into your superpowers. I have become very cognizant of my extremely addictive nature and that has allowed me to use it to my advantage!
How, you might ask? Well, I place myself in environments that will result in me becoming addicted to positive things. One example of this is exercise. I have consciously turned myself into an endorphin and adrenaline junkie so that I actually crave physical activity. Today's run was an example of that.
Today was supposed to be an active recovery day, meaning that I would just do my biking commute to the lab and back home (about 1 hr of medium-intensity biking total) and some much-needed stretching and maybe an epsom salt soak in the evening. Well, the weather was just too damn nice and the outdoors were calling to me. So I laced up and started out with the intention of just running down to the lake (about 1 km), doing some stretching by the water and then heading home...
13 km and a whale-sighting later... facepalm
Can you identify the location of these whales in Toronto? Maybe I should start a Steemit Toronto running scavenger hunt contest! Thoughts?
It's always on the days that I don't intend to do long runs and they happen by accident that I end up with my best times. There's a lesson in there somewhere...
It is important to be mindful that even positive addictions can become detrimental if you let them take control (too much of a good thing really is a bad thing). And so I'll try my best to actually do an active recovery day tomorrow, or at least not run quite so far... :P I did get some good stretching in at the end of my run, so there's a slight compromise in there. Kind of. Shhhh.
Do you have any weaknesses that you've identified and turned into superpowers?? Do you have an addictive personality and used it in a positive way? Drop me a line below!
Stay tuned ;)

I love to see in modern days, people like you are getting conscious about health and I am sure good health condition not only imbibe a positive attitude but also it bring self confidence.
Definitely! Everything in my life gets easier when I put my health first. :) Gotta have that solid foundation in order to build other things on!
Recovery Shmecovery. Gotta take advantage of those nice weather days. :)
Totally agree with you @caseygrimley! They're precious here in the great, white North! Haha. Are you a runner?
I used to be, I haven't ran in a few years, with the exception of playing indoor soccer. I've done full and half marathon, along with a Ragnar Relay and a bunch of 5K's.
Ever since I started photography 5 years ago, I don't find much time for running any more.
It can definitely be hard to find the time when you've got a million things going on, and I guess it would be hard to run to your shoots with all your equipment...though it would be a good challenge! Haha :P
I've only done a half marathon once - the Scotiabank waterfront one in Toronto - and was considering doing again this year. I've been spending a lot more time running outside this summer and I'm loving it.
