Using Cannabis To Make Assisted Living Facilities Safer

in #health7 years ago

For those who have loved ones living in assisted care facilities, they might never have considered that they would need to be worried about the other seniors who are staying at the nursing home. There have been thousands of cases of sexual abuse that have been reported in various nursing homes throughout the years, and we've heard about various nurses and others being found guilty of abuse and worse. But what often doesn't occur to many who have a loved one living in these places, is that there is great opportunity for their loved ones to be victimized by other seniors who are staying at the venue.

For many of the seniors who are living in these facilities, they suffer from some form of dementia.

Quite often, authorities in those nursing homes will try to control the seniors living in them with a variety of anti-psychotic medications. And in many cases, it's alleged that those medications have been given out without there being the right diagnosis in place.

These medications also come with dangerous side effects and quite often they don't efficiently address the cognitive deficits that are related to the illness.

And because of the struggle that comes along with having to battle with Alzheimer's or some other form of dementia, it prompts many of those suffering from it to exhibit anger and fits of rage etc as a result. The further that the illness progresses, the more it can fuel more violent and aggressive behavior.

With many nursing facilities said to be struggling with ongoing staffing issues, it's creates a problem that involves residents being left angry and unattended, to the point where a number of people have lost their lives as a result.

Cannabis Succeeds Where Big Pharma Fails

Cannabis is being used to help people treat a variety of illnesses, everything from PTSD and epilepsy, to cancer, colitis, Tourette Syndrome, and even Alzheimer's Disease. For illnesses such as schizophrenia and dementia, it's CBD that is believed might be the key ingredient to success in finding treatment for many.

When anti-psychotic medications are seen to fail at addressing the cognitive deficits that are related to the illness, researchers have alleged that cannabis succeeds.

Not only did they see that CBD has the potential to address the cognitive issues, but they have also noted that with taking a natural option like cannabis, they didn't see the traditional negative side effects that you'd see with anti-psychotic medications.

Researchers from Israel have also found that cannabis, particularly THC, might be beneficial in helping to alleviate symptoms related to dementia, by restoring the memory and reversing the brain's aging process.

Other researchers who are also investigating the possibility of using cannabis to help with dementia and other illnesses, have similarly suggested that it might help by working to protect the brain, reduce inflammation, and much more. And with seniors said to be the fastest growing demographic of cannabis users at the moment, it's only a matter of time before more individuals and families find out if cannabis can bring them a solution that they have yet to be able to find via pharmaceuticals or other.

For those assisted living facilities that might be looking for a way to boost the quality of life for those living there, and make things a little safer, they might want to consider embracing cannabis as an option. And for the states that have made legalization changes, care facilities in those areas have been struggling to adjust to the changes in determining whether or not their seniors should be afforded the freedom to medicate naturally.

Some care facilities have already taken the step to engage in cannabis education forums with the seniors living at their venues, as well as permitted their employees and others to use cannabis on the property. A growing number of nursing homes in the US have already established their own policies when it comes to the cannabis use of their residents.

Cannabis just fits my needs but my country has a taboo opinion and outlook about iit so Ii am suffering resorting to medicines that I don't like to use.

Wonderful article I enjoyed your writing, will be following for more. I'm glad here in Canada it has been used medicinally without too much trouble from the government and in around August they plan to legalize completely, and hopefully, the US will follow suit recreational use is one thing but there are little kids that need this medicine and they are given trouble by the TSA while people can carry their prescription drugs that are way worse like its nothing .

We apparently have THC receptors in the brain so it is completely plausible these conditions may respond well.
The trouble is big Pharma will lose to much money and hence no proper studies will occur if it is successful.

A very useful article about the role of marijuana is so great against some diseases. May they use it wisely. Thanks for sharing @doitvoluntarily.

My experience has been that it can be remarkable when used for those in hospice, as well. I have seen a number of people pass on opiates in their final hours and spent time with people leaving while using cannabis medicines... My experiences are limited and anecdotal, but the anecdotes!

Thank you for the effort you've put into your articles. Followed and upvoted.

Although for much of the community is still a Taboo, I believe that cannabis offers many health benefits, is proven to combat migraines, which slows the growth of tumors, relieves the symptoms of chronic diseases, helps prevent Alzheimer's, fights glaucoma, prevents seizures, helps the treatment of disorders and attention deficit, can help the treatment of multiple sclerosis, decreases discomfort of pre-menstrual syndrome (something incredibly good for us women) helps in the fight against compulsive disorders / obsessive, improves sex life, controls the symptoms of menopause and these are just some of the benefits I can mention. I think that all countries should be a little more "open-minded" about this issue.
By the way, if it's not too much trouble I wanted to invite you to read my posts. I would greatly appreciate if you take the time to read them, and in case you like them, I would appreciate it if you would give me a vote, a comment, or a resteem.
You have my vote, and I stay attentive to your next publications!

How view point has changed about cannabis use to the brain. If some one would have read this article back in the late 70's and early 80's, they would have thought no way the cannabis can help with dementia.

They might also more possibly think "marijuana causes dementia".

Using Cannabis To Make Assisted Living Facilities Safer It is very useful for the patient to use. Through this, the patient moves with the help of which the doctor advises, because the patient is allowed to walk at the end of a temporary period, so that the body's thermal conductive power and cells can work properly and hence the patient becomes very fast.

So we had the cure of dementia but didn't notice in time, only if people found out about cannabis in time. Family members wouldn't have died of cancer. States should approve the use of cannabis so these care facilities will use it. The report of abuse in care facilities seems to be a global issue which need to be addressed.

thanks nice information!
