MORE projected projects, garden update, and minnow development

in #gardening7 years ago

It's been a while since I posted about the garden. Mostly because there hasn't been much to post about really.

It's HOT here.

Too damn hot. I'm having to water these poor plants daily. My tomato has succumbed to death by cooking, despite having planted it under the plum tree. The squash patch on the sunny side of the yard is cooked. The carrots are a total loss. I'm wondering if we have good soil for carrots.

But if there's one thing you can count on in Texas...

It's okra.

These guys love the heat. They'd grow in hell year round if you'd piss on em I bet. They didn't grow much til we had our first week over 100*F. Now, with a bit of water to keep them from keeling over, we have okra!

Which reminds me, @brockolopolis, how are your okra doing?

The cucumbers are trying to die in the heat too. But we'll see what happens there. Water perks them up. I'm beginning to wonder if "full sun" in other parts of the world is what Texas evenings are like. The box squash are doing very well I think. I'd say that's the most successful experiment yet.

Quick side note, go check out THIS POST from @taskmaster4450 about boosting your SBD income and/or growing the community here on steem. Maybe it can help you. According to the performance I'm getting and his estimation, It'll almost double my SP interest earnings. It's small, but it'll add up for sure.

We have decided also to add a fire pit to our patio. According to these folks, it's an inexpensive project that won't take a lot of time to do.

There's a pic of theirs. Came out super good.

Looks super simple and it'll make our outdoor experience even better. Anything to keep us outside more. It seems we have a good bit of sticks after each wind storm, so we shouldn't ever have a shortage of fuel. I love the idea, because it's a vast improvement over my little homegrown fire pit that I made out of two wheels.

It's been a good little thing, but I want something bigger and more permanent since our life is a bit more permanent. It'll give us another level to our entertainment space outside, and hopefully enhance our experience. Have I said lately that I love being a homeowner? This place is gonna be my own little slice of heaven on earth. I can't wait to make more progress and share with y'all and with my neighbors!

Thanks as always for reading. Wife and I are gonna go talk and get a few small projects done. Have a good evening :)

Stay relevant

Oh man that's some seriously racy stuff!! Your Okra looks amazing, it made my heart accelerate haha! okra.jpg

Life hasn't permitted me to make much progress in the garden over the past week or so. Jeeze, I have needed to finish cutting the lawn for a week. in the center there is our okra, still indoor and surrounded by ginger, brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower.

We have several spots we have spoke about having it in the yard, but I haven't gotten to it.

Our weather isn't nearly as warm, and consistently as yours. It was 30 degrees (86 f) when we planted our potatoes. Elin (my wonderful wife) insist that we cover the potatoes ooh and broad beans with straw to protect them from burning.
I was not so excited to do that, and pouted the whole time that I did. But it did help to keep the moisture in i think. Do you need more ground cover?
our cucumbers don't seem to be working this year either. WE just got some squash up, corn is coming in good in the garden, but not in the food forest much at all.

It's awesome that you guys own, it means the work you put in, YOU benefit from long run. AND you don't need permission for as much!

With welding, you could fashion quite the grill/fire pit in the yard, no?

That one tray is probably more productive than one of my whole beds lol

Congrats on the okra.
I went through the same thing during Feb this year, hot hot hot, no rain, all my tomatoes dried out, pumpkin died... haven't try okra yet, will plant that soon since I love okra anyway. Thanks for sharing!

Right on brother - It will be interesting to see what my plants look like after being gone two weeks. I am afraid of how many died and how many weeds there are!!

Are you shitting me? Fuck off.

To the devs that made this bot: gfy

Don't waste your votes on these posts. They are already invisible.
