RE: Save Time & Water: Easy & Effective Drip Irrigation Using Pots & Pails
This is a really great way to provide drip irrigation without incurring large expenses or material. We've got swales that collect our rain water now, but using unfired clay pots near all our trees would be a neat way to ensure they get all the water they need. Definitely implementing this in our land soon!
oh how wonderful. We are working swales into our landscape (or wanting to) I have started digging some out but we are still figuring out the best placement. I did read your post about it and I've been meaning to comment!
I hope you find the pot irrigation idea as beneficial to your garden as we have. :)
One way to mark out swales is using an A-frame. It shows you where to dig so the bottom of the swales are level with your contour line. They really help with rainwater collection and I'm sure in conjecture with the drip irrigation our crops water needs will be well taken care of without having to use a petrol pump. We're a long way off from town so I'll need to plan a supply run where I can get other material we need for the farm along with the pots. Really looking forward to trying this out!
You might also want to keep an eye out for some Ollas. It's a similar idea that I would love to try. I just can't find pots designed like this.

Thanks for the extra tips on swales - I can use all the advice I can get!!
