Went on a late night ride after indulging a bit too much in food and drink

I try to look after myself as far as what I consume is concerned. Experts will tell you that if you are trying to lose weight the journey can be accomplished by 80% diet and 20% exercise. They also say that you cannot out-exercise a bad diet. For the most part I stay pretty conservative with what I eat and drink but I also want to enjoy life and one of the best things in life is good food. Well the other evening I went a bit too crazy with the food and drink and before you know it I had racked up about 1000 calories than I would normally have for dinner.

I don't often respond to these situations the way that I did this time but even though I was a bit tipsy, I had the idea in my head that I was going to head out and exercise off the excess. I think part of the reason why I succeeded is because the people I was eating and drinking with that evening had said that they didn't believe that I could do it. This is a great way to motivate me to do something because I hate being second-guessed or doubted by people.

It was already dark by the time I headed out and the hardest part about this entire trip was staying motivated when I got home and walked my bicycle down the stairs and put it on the pavement. The rest was actually pretty easy. It will soon be quite cold here where I live so this will likely not be an option in a month or so, so I am glad I took advantage of it.

The area where I live is mostly flat and in this particular situation this was a good thing. It was also late enough that on the trail I only encountered a few other cyclists. I was wearing a reflective shirt and I have flashing lights on the front and back of my bicycle, so I was about as safe as I could possibly be. I was a bit tipsy from having had about 6 beers but I was conscientious of this and didn't drive like a jackass. When I saw other people or one of the few road crossings I was extra-careful. The booze in my system and the fact that my friends had doubted me gave me more energy than I would normally have so even though this ride was a bit longer than I would normally go on, I had more power than I normally would have and it all seemed kind of easy.

I think that part where it says that I got up to nearly 50km / hour is a glitch because that seems incredibly unlikely to be something that I can ever do even when I go down the hill climb. The distance is spot on though according to map apps and this was actually a very beneficial ride for me because I was tired by the time I was done with it all. I think that in the future I may repeat this.

I didn't quite make it to 1000 calories but I got really close. I cannot check the amount of calories burned until after I stop so I was a little disappointed to be so close only to miss my target by 100 calories. Oh well, I did make it further and faster than I thought I would do so that makes me happy.

I'm still loving my Garmin watch. If you have the money and are interested in tracking your fitness I highly recommend getting one!
