Help a Tech Noob: Can I Use Two Mice? Plus Mousepad Qs!

in #club5050yesterday

It seems I may have cross some subtle code of behavior every now and then.

Many of the stores I visit somehow make me feel unwelcome, as if they're just waiting to call security to kick me out of their premise, like I'm a trespasser or something.

Perhaps these establishments, with their service and manners, are meant for royalty and dignitaries—even if those VIPS never actually purchase anything.

There's certainly no need to be polite to commoners who scrape together money with the sole intention of walking into their store to buy what they need, not to window shop or simply to keep them busy.

They really should put up a sign No Commoners Allowed much like those no pets, no food signs, to deter people like me who would just inconvenience them.

Sadly, I am nothing but an ordinary commoner. I can't even pretend to be loaded and mislead them into thinking I'll buy up everything that will line their pockets with commission.

It's not easy to get what I need at times. For my latest episode, I just needed a mouse and a mousepad.

So, I guess I'll ask here.

Everyone here should be much more well-versed than that IT store guy who gave me a dirty look.

My bad, I was naive enough to walk into that store thinking I could get it done and get my mouse problem fixed.

I know you guys aren't paid employees of an IT store obligated to serve only high-class folks, but I'm sure any kind of insight would be helpful.

MY QUESTION

Is it possible to use two mice on a single PC simultaneously?

My specific need is to have one mouse remain idle/stationary on a particular spot of a page (e.g., waiting for an update or a specific element to appear), while I actively use a second mouse on other desktops or pages.

I typically manage around five active virtual desktops at any given time. Would it be possible if I used different connection types for each mouse, say, one wired and one Bluetooth? Or I can use both with Bluetooth?

And a related question about mousepads:

Does the mousepad significantly impact mouse accuracy and pointing, or is its primary purpose just for better gliding?

I sometimes feel like my pointer slips or isn't as precise as it should be. Also, does the color of the mousepad matter for optical mouse performance?

I'm using Window.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, you can install two mice on one PC (USB oder Bluetooth).

My specific need is to have one mouse remain idle/stationary on a particular spot of a page (e.g., waiting for an update or a specific element to appear), while I actively use a second mouse on other desktops or pages.

I think this means you want to use two mouse pointers. No, you cannot use two mouse pointers on the PC.

Does the mousepad significantly impact mouse accuracy and pointing, or is its primary purpose just for better gliding?

For optical mice, a single-coloured and even background may be better. For laser mice, it doesn't matter at all.

Saludos.

Regarding the dual mouse setup, you're right. That's exactly what I've been getting, and it makes common sense that both would control the same cursor. I've heard about some software that might enable it, but I'm hesitant to download anything without more certainty, which is why I thought I should ask around first.
