RE: Feature Request: Sorting comments by Author Reputation

in #busy7 years ago

I think it needs to be a combination. Both reputation and length of post. Because you cannot buy reputation. But you could just have fuller text. So it should be both or some type of correlation between the two. If post length was an option then spammers would just take advantage of that. I was thinking the same thing but it’s dificult. I’d say ultimately it might need to be a combination of trending (upvote), reputation and length. It’s a tricky problem with an even trickier potential solution.

Sort:

Those things shouldn't be combined. The length of a comment says nothing about the quality.

Sorting like that would only encourage users to make even bigger spam comments.

Also - I would prefer a simple 1 word comment by @ned - saying: nice

Than a lengthy comment by a new user who is completely off-topic.

Agreed. The ability to sort it by length of post would be beneficial to certain users wishing to see if it may perhaps have some substance, since sorting by reputation might have otherwise brought a low reputation but substantial post to light. I like reputation idea holistically tho as it encourages users to more or less create content, which is hopefully good content. As opposed to simply buying into the system, literally.

Technically all reputation is "bought", if you spend enough time to think about how it's obtained. Well, bought or pre-mined, I guess.

Bought vs earned, to get a bit more technical. But I see where you’re coming from.
