Feature Request: Sorting comments by Author Reputation

After creating some trending posts I noticed the sheer amount of (useless) comments and how difficult it was, to find important comments.

And how nice it would be to sort those comments by the Author Reputation.

Now - a high author reputation isn't instantly equal to a high value response but the chance is high, that as the author of that post - I want to read and respond to it.

This feature-request goes out to both condenser and busy.

I would implement it myself but I'm not versed with REACT and sadly also don't have much time. But I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of people out there - who want this feature ASAP.

PS: Whoever implements it and pings/mentions me - will get an instant 100% up-vote by me.

Cool

very cool !

that would indeed be a nice feature, instead of having people giving a silly comment and upvoting themselves to show up on top and hope that others vote for them as well.
It is also true that there are less people with higher reps just writing "nice post, upvote me and I will follow you"
maybe adding a wordcount and setting it to a certain amount of words to filter out the rest? like anything with 10 words or less is automatically sorted down. (no idea if this would be possible though)

The main reason I want this feature is because a high reputation most of the time means that the user is already for quite a while part of the STEEM ECO-SYSTEM.

And I want to at least acknowledge the user for commenting under my post without having to scroll through 50 or 60 low value comments.

a high reputation most of the time means that the user is already for quite a while part of the STEEM ECO-SYSTEM.

Oftentimes, the high reputation is purchased by investing in STEEM; but, I'm sure you knew that.

I want to at least acknowledge the user for commenting under my post

Unfortunately, this would once again overshadow those just starting out who have something of VALUE to say. Of course, you know, too that their upvote wouldn't be worth much...a penny if you're lucky.

I hope the comments will continue as they flow out. Those who need the recognition just starting out don't need to be pushed even further into the depths of the ocean.

Peace.

Well thanks, @spiritualmatters. You just answered a question I've had, about how to increase my reputation score. And also why some people who don't seem to interact much in the steemit community had such high rep scores.

Glad to help; but, don't let the 'tortoise' approach for growing your reputation deter you.

There are a lot of whales, aka investors, on the platform whose energies are oftentimes used for growing the Steem platform. Others are merely members of the community for trading their investments for the best returns. This is part of what makes the Steem community a melting pot of all 'reasons' for being a member.

Of course, some grow their reps by "botting" their way up the ladder. This is often far more costly than meets the eye. As you study more, you will soon see that there are some people with high ranks and very little in their Wallet to show for it.

Even though this is an archived post, (of zero payout value ;+), I'm glad this conversation continues. Perhaps, this will inspire you to create an original post on the topic based on your perception.

Best regards!

Peace.

Thanks, @spiritualmatters. Really. I'm just trying to make sense of all the different aspects of steemit, and your thoughtful response is appreciated.

Since I'm here to write and interact, it may be the tortoise approach for me. But banana style.

the tortoise approach

That's 99% of us on the platform...quite rewarding in a strange kind of way to see pennies turn into dollars, literally. Whale or plankton, Steemit is a great hobby for people who love to blog/vlog. It runs circles around FB for the simple reason, it pays in tangible rewards, no matter how minute the amount.

Best regards!

Peace.

I hear ya. I got paid for my first post today, made a whole 0.12. But it was exciting. :-)

I will admit that I do tend to upvote my own post when I feel that what I write is substantial and I’d like some sort of feedback. It may be perceived as selfish or taking advantage of the system. But that is an option of the system which is in place for a reason, we must assume or accept. I wouldn’t want someone to notice me just to upvote me unless they actually read my post and actually believed it was valuable.

Thanks, very good post !!!!

Awesome Work!

Keep it up!!!

I've been using this Chrome extension and only until just now, when I made a comment on a recent post and wanted to see what my sorting options were, did I notice that I do have this feature available to me... I still want stackable sorting options though...

And now that I'm back at this post... I noticed that in your image above. It depicts what appears to be the busy.org platform with the sort by reputation option being available... is this true or is that photoshopped?

cheers!

Another upside is this would be that if you still find spam comments of users with a higher reputation, it's much easier to notice them and give them the flag that they deserve.

A user with high reputation who still writes spam comments, shouldn't have a high reputation in the first place. Should help weed those people out.

Or sort by length of the comment. Then those " great post" comments will end on the bottom of the list. Once you've read the first one, you can stop reading 😀

I think it needs to be a combination. Both reputation and length of post. Because you cannot buy reputation. But you could just have fuller text. So it should be both or some type of correlation between the two. If post length was an option then spammers would just take advantage of that. I was thinking the same thing but it’s dificult. I’d say ultimately it might need to be a combination of trending (upvote), reputation and length. It’s a tricky problem with an even trickier potential solution.

Those things shouldn't be combined. The length of a comment says nothing about the quality.

Sorting like that would only encourage users to make even bigger spam comments.

Also - I would prefer a simple 1 word comment by @ned - saying: nice

Than a lengthy comment by a new user who is completely off-topic.

Agreed. The ability to sort it by length of post would be beneficial to certain users wishing to see if it may perhaps have some substance, since sorting by reputation might have otherwise brought a low reputation but substantial post to light. I like reputation idea holistically tho as it encourages users to more or less create content, which is hopefully good content. As opposed to simply buying into the system, literally.

Technically all reputation is "bought", if you spend enough time to think about how it's obtained. Well, bought or pre-mined, I guess.

Bought vs earned, to get a bit more technical. But I see where you’re coming from.

Hah. Such a simple but elegant solution. This might actually be nice lol. Would not hat thought about it.

bro,i m agree with you. Many people give negative comment without any reason.Never read full post. When i joined steemit, one person given me negative upvote and comment without any reason.

sis, this isnt about positive or negative, its about relevance

This is a great request, but I'd build ontop of this module. If you create the ability to sort by rep, you should also be able to pull other data types and provide additional ways to sort.

I'd like to see comments by people who follow you. Or perhaps, sort by activity (which threads has the most responses).

Ultimately if the module allows you to pull that data, you could theoretically sort by any metric. That could be upgraded at a future date. Great proposal.

This indeed is something what's slowly starting to become essential. I'm not getting many comments my self but i hate to see that alot of good comments get lost under comments which are clearly copy pasted or done by a bot. It won't solve the whole problem but it's something. Hope someone implements it soon..

A nice idea that I completely support!
Hope the right person will read it :)
